The people defending its racist overtones are not ignoring it. They're celebrating it, while they're backpedaling like crazy trying to excuse it. Plenty of racists alive and well in our country. And many of them post here.

I mean, seriously, would it really kill them just to call blatant racism for what it is for once? I mean, heck, it doesn't even matter to me whether or not they themselves find the cartoon offensive. They can even support it like the idiot OP for all I care. But please, can't they just take the blinders of denial off for once?

The cartoon ... broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy.
From the article, but I still don't get it.

It's a political cartoon. It's supposed to make clever sense in it's symbolism. Racist or not, this one makes no sense.

What do the two cops shooting a chimp represent symbolically about "Washington's effort to revive the economy"? Congress was successful in writing/passing the stimulus plan, but even at that, let's somehow pretend that "congress is stupid" hense the chimp comparison. Then what are the cops supposed to represent? All I can see is maybe the minority of citizens who are against the stimulus plan? But if that's the case, how is the minority (cops) killing the congress (chimp) acurately "mock Washington's efforts"?

The is a disgraceful and ignorant attempt at some sort of humor -- as were the many depictions of President Bush as a chimpanzee, nazi, etc. The "cartoon" steps over the line by implying a tasteless racial slur as well as a symbolic depiction of the violent murder of our president.

Plainly put, this is an ugly and unfunny piece of trash, and another sad day for what passes for journalism in our country today. Those who blame the decline of newspapers solely on the internet and the blogosphere might want to ponder the implications of the editorial decision to print this kind of garbage.

The cartoon doesnt label the cops as representing anything; in any case Obama and/or the stimulus were never "shot down" by anything or anyone. So it doesnt work as a political cartoon. So what could be its purpose?

Not surprised it was the horrid NY Post though.

They prove so clearly they're racist in every way except out loud.... But they couldnt function as proper reactionaries if they werent totally closeted...

Did you ever notice it's the far right wing types who use the icon the most? And they make this observation with disturbing frequency: "but you can't........or else you'll be called racist"

Just be yourselves, guys. People already see that you're racist, why keep up the pretense? You'll live longer and happier lives.

Glad I'm not the only one baffled at its complete lack of concrete meaning ... racist or not.

Please explain what's funny. Really. I just don't get the joke. Obama did not write the bill. The NY Post says it does not refer to Obama, so who does it refer to?

What's the joke?
