WTF is up w/this thread? Seriously? Some of you have no idea if it's ok to hit or not hit a woman? Here's the answer: if the woman is coming at you w/a knife or a gun, then by all means subdue her. Other than that, I think anything else is just trying to justify your own anger issues.

it is never ever okay to strike a woman! except: if you are at war with a country which has women in their armed forces, and then it's ok to defend yourself. I said defend, I didn't say be the agressor.

Haven't read the whole thread, too long. That said, I'd say it's ok to hit a woman in self defense. If a woman hits me with intent to harm (not just slap), or I feel my life is at risk or I am risking serious bodily harm, I'll hit a woman.
In the same situations, I'd also hit a man. I'm an equal opportunity self-defender.

People want to say it's okay when it's 'self-defense'.
NO.
Self-defense, legally, involves the threat of great bodily harm or DEATH. So unless the woman "hit" you SO hard that you got life threatening injuries, it's NOT self-defense. And even in that case I have to wonder what YOU did in the first place. Here's some advice, don't get involved in these types of relationships. Walk away.
And as for spanking children, that's not okay either. That type of discipline has been linked to violence.
