Each year, millions of $ are spent on illegal drugs and the so-called "escorts" or just street hookers. That money vanishes into the black market, as (obviously) drug dealers and prostitutes don't pay a dime in taxes. People are going to keep getting high or paying for sex anyway, it has been like that since the beginning of mankind. I believe a brave approach regarding these issues is needed.

Sure they do. When the drug dealers buy their cars, boats, homes and chainsaws for cutting the heads off other drug dealers, they pay sales taxes. Hookers spend their money on skanky clothes, booze, and drugs, which I discussed above.
If the sales tax is 7%, they have a higher effective tax rate than almost half of the American families when one factors in the amount of their consumption. Ever see a drug dealer driving Ford? They make lots of money, they spend lots of money. I don't advocate legalizing either.

I say legalize both we actually spend more money trying to protect these people and weeding out corrupt cops.
Black market goes away, less jails and actual personal responsiblity. If you do drugs and break other laws like stealing for drugs and while on drugs then make the penality stronger. No reason for taxing something that just gives the government more reason to grow bigger and waste more money.

*scratches head*
A 7% rate is still 7%, regardless of the amount of consumption.

We've had legal prostitution in Nevada for quite some time. It's worked out very well. The prostitutes are checked for disease; there have been no reported cases of AIDS from a legal prostitute. The brothels provide needed revenue for many rural counties in the state.

Other people don't have a right to say what you can or cannot do with your own body and with other consenting adults. But the majority imposes its "morals" on the rest of us anyway.

7% of millions (they consume alot) is more than 15% or even 35% of thousands. If the average American family earns 60K, and they spend it all, they might pay $30K in total taxes (payroll, sales tax, excise taxes, income taxes, embedded taxes, etc). A good drug dealer might pay that in a day. That guy in Florida admitted to spending $1 million a day on girls, booze, cars, clothes, boats, airplanes, etc. and he still had millions buried in the basement. Most of his purchases were taxable.
Think of it this way - if Joe Druggie was not buying drugs, he would spend it on something else and pay the taxes. The fact that he chooses to give it to Joe the Drug Dealer (and let him spend it) does not mean that the funds are not ultimately taxed in some form. It is strictly timing. Not enough reason to legalize drugs in my mind.

This is more of a moral issue than a financial decision for me. I just think its wrong. I realize its going to happen.

You forget about how Afghanistan is one of the biggest exporters of heroin. If it were legalized, trade could be regulated and the drug war would no longer be funding terrorists.

So why criminalize it, if it won't stop it but will fill up prisons and trample personal freedoms?
