The international alliences and entanglements are the reason that lead to WWI in the first place. And we joined because our financial industry was too involved in financing England and when England wasn't winning the war, we figured the financial institutions were "too big to fail", because if thay failed, the US economy would have failed. hmmmm 'too big to fail'... that has a familiar ring to it.

because at some point in history, it was necessary to have our troops there to make sure another war did not flare up. Not to mention that after dismantling militaries of countries like Germany and Japan they needed some kind of defense against future retaliatory acts of aggression.

Although it's made for the school system it's a decent video.

HowStuffWorks Videos "World War I: Causes and Aftermath"

Now we cut defense while everyone else is building up in a far more dangerous time. A lot more weight should be given to how many folks died for what they have. To some it's just a saying.

If you can't understand why we support government with similar interest then no one will convince you. If one empire doesn't exist another will, it's clearly that simple and at least for the time being our empire allows freedoms. I'm sure you'd rather be under Sharia law though huh? or maybe Nazism or Communism?

That's easy: 1) German unrestricted submarine warfare and 2) The Zimmermann Telegram
