Just wanted to throw this photo out there. This board in particular we are all bickering and fighting over things that are occurring on the cooled crust a small ball of molten material. I think it is important once and a while to look at where and what we are...

To me, I find it very interesting that humans think they are all knowing but in reality we are only exposed to an infinitesimally narrow band of knowledge/information... we can only see things so big and can only see things so small, beyond that... we do not know what exists.

Please pay attention to the hubble pictures at the end... if that does not blow your mind, I don't know what would!

I have a hard time grasping the concept of the universe. There's no way to put a "size" on it, it is the epitome of the word "infinite". It boggles the mind.

Exactly... things can be infinitely large or infinitely small, it all depends on what your perspective of big and small is. As humans we compare the size of things relative to our size. How do we know what makes up atoms if we cant even determine what subatomic particles are.... and what makes up those things... so forth and so forth.... There is no way for us to know. The biggest things we can capture are galaxies... galaxies are the atoms of universes... universes are the atoms of... what??!

I is important to understand that humans have definite limits. We do not understand the concept of infinity and what we think we understand is only based on the perception of what we experience... Its crazy... what is sound? What are colors? What does heat feel like?

And what happens when we reach the limit of our understanding? We just give up, ignore it and move on to more simpler things... like reaching for a bag of "tasty" doritoes LOL!

Yeah, very cool.
It reminds me of the education short film "Powers of Ten" which I first saw in either college or high school (can't remember which, but either way it was a longgggggg time ago).

Still as valid today though - and definitely eye-opening.

YouTube - Powers of Ten

Note that it not only pulls back, but zooms in as well.
Pretty wild.

excellent post, Mr. Traik. We cannot understand, or even fully realize, the extent of "life", ours or others. That does not, however, relieve us of the responsibility to continue to learn and grow, in understanding, compassion, love, not only for our family, not only for our specie, not only for our planet, but for all life, everywhere. . . . and perhaps some of the "old saws", are correct. . . charity starts at home. . . .I am convinced that "love" starts at home, starts, in fact, is dependent on, love and respect for oneself. . . that is the basis on which love and respect for ones neighbors, near or far, is built. . . that is the one essential ingredient for being capable of loving others.
