Besides the US, this flu has sprung up in Canada, New Zealand, Britain, Germany, Spain, Israel, and Austria - so clearly it was illegal immigrants sneaking into all those countries and bringing the disease with them (those illegals are mighty strong swimmers to get all the way across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans aren't they?)

Get a clue.
It's a disease. It doesn't selectively pick out illegal aliens to infect - and it didn't JUST make it's way into the USA.

Ken
That still does not change the fact that pandemic control and prevention is one of the primary reasons to have strict immigration laws.

And the first casualty from 'swine flu' in the US was an illegal immigrant.

American tourists sure do get around if they have spread the disease to Europe, Oceania, Canada, etc.. Maybe flu shots should be mandatory before any trips to Mexico (or anywhere?) from this point on.. Even though cases outside of Mexico are mild, the fact that it was so easily carried and spread should be a red flag to everyone.

The employer is just following the law. They probably don't want to lose their license to broadcast. In America the airwaves have always been considered to be owned by the public. They are finite, not infinite, and they are managed by the FCC as they've always been, as a public trust. There are many things that cannot be said in the public broadcast channels that can be said in other environments, so free speech is not the issue. This guy has mistaken the privilege of using a public resource for a soapbox in Hyde Park or a Klan cross burning. If he had any kind of media training or background he should have known better.

We have allowed individuals like this more latitude than any other group in society, and they abuse it.

A new article in the Wall Street Journal indicates that it may not have originated in Mexico but instead right here in the USA (at least for some of the cases) and has been here for quite some time.

"Growing evidence in California suggests that early flu cases had no apparent origin in Mexico. Many of the early California victims -- including the first two cases -- say they hadn't traveled to Mexico and had no contact with pigs. Some may have fallen ill before the first Mexicans did."

Try sh*t talking your boss... how long do you think you could keep it up without being fired? Terminating jobs is a freedom granted to employers. So what do you choose?

I like the free speech part in this country. Although I'm a liberal I don't believe in censorship and am in favor of anything being said on radio.
I don't listen to the hate mongers, nor believe they should be censored.
Many people in our country would prefer to use various smearing epithets to people they don't like. So, yes, all radio people should be allowed to use the "N" word, call hispanics any vile name they can think of, refer to any nationality or ethnic group with any label you want. Enjoy yourselves.
But, at the same time, by using labels and smearing others, you also reveal your own mentality.

How about blaming this on the leeches of the American company who basically own the unsanitary plant that started all this in Mexico?
The same conditions at the Peanut Butter factories that caused that problem, were at the pig plant.

Yes, he should have been punished. If he left the leeches part out of it, he'd would probably been left alone.

Amazing how Americans have learned to panic at the slightest threat. Terrorism, Influenza, Immigrants, Obama, Muggers, Taxes, etc, etc.

Influenza is endemic in every human, swine and bird population. Sometimes it mutates into a dangerously virulent type and can cause great damage before it stops. This is the way things are. The only "defense" is to stay basically healthy so you can survive the symptoms and develop the immunity. Sometimes a vaccine can help develop the immunity before you get the flu. Sometimes not.

As far as the talking head is concerned, if the segment was an opinion and not news segment, he should not have been fired. Lynched, maybe, but not fired. Expressing political opinion is what the First Amendment is about.
