Those are losses we can stand.Let food production and other necessities stop and then you see people hurting.People just coming to their senses as to what is really important to their survival.

Once again too many a$$ holes spouting senseless anger, too little debate. I wouldn't use the collapse of the news industry and various other entertainment companies as an example, but yes we are definitely on the cusp of a modern day Dark Ages. If you have children and/or grandchildren they will probably have the fight of their lives. Too bad. By the time the holier than thou crowd around here realizes what is happening it will be way too late. Heck, it's probably too late already. Enjoy your forum.

I'm not sure when the first Dark Age in the U.S. occurred but I'm very proud to say I have not taken a newspaper subscription or taken out a newspaper ad in more than 20 years. Reading day old news is bad enough but placing an overpriced black & white text ad in the back of a periodical that potential buyers have to purchase and then laboriously find the tiny ad is simply bad business. I fail to see how reading day old news will prevent a Dark Age and certainly when the current crop of newspaper journalists are just like Matt Drudge resorting to yellow journalism to support their rabid political leanings.

Additionally I have not had CBS, NBC or ABC television in my house in the same number of years. Their left-leaning political bias is so apparent and appalling it adds nothing to social or political enlightenment. And as far as cable/satellite television, one can change the channels at any given moment and find that 85 to 95% of the channels will be advertising. As ad revenues continue to drop, more ads will be needed to support the already meager and repetitive programming. And as more advertising is added, more viewers will abandon the television media. No prophet is needed here.

I would only add that no intelligent person believes newspapers or the artists behind television and the music media represents all the enlightened values of western civilization. Newspapers are simply an outdated, and I might add environmentally detrimental, way to communicate the news.

In the same sense, American artists will also have to be more creative than their buying public in their marketing and sales. That shouldn't be difficult for the creative skills artists claim to possess. Copyright laws are like the import taxes on Toyotas and Hondas put in place to to protect the American auto industry. Taxes and laws cannot level the playing field where creativeness has been vacated by the ones you seek to protect.

But on the other hand, maybe the drop in TV ad revenue and music sales is just related to the current bad recession?
