I've never been a huge proponent of all the Mars exploration projects due to the big spending for a few picoliters of water. As for the moon, I'm not sure what is left to gain there either. This may be a good idea on Obama's part?
What says you?

Makes me sad in a way, because I love scientific endeavors. But still.... yes, NASA needs to be called to a temporary halt. It's an expensive luxury. Yes there are some valuable things that came from the program, but not enough to make it worthwhile to continue right now. IMO.

I feel exactly the same way. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in the here and now to clear the way for an even brighter future.

Yeah. But it's a temporary sacrifice. And a few years from now when they come back it'll give us a chance to modernize a lot of equipment. A lot of the stuff at NASA is sadly outdated.
We need to shelve the man spacecraft program. It hasn't ever produced any direct benefits. All people can do is claim stuff developed for the manned program has been used elsewhere. Silly rationalization.
The last flight of the space shuttle is scheduled for 2010, its replacement isn't scheduled to be operational until 2014. What it is scheduled to do other than make periodic stops at the questionably useful space station is a big question. It is more than time for a sober look at where NASA is going or should go in the future rather than simply allowing institutional inertia to guide the space program.
Hey, do you think for the last launch we could send Limbaugh to the moon? We could use some oxycontin to lure him onto the rocket...
Wow there can't even be a thread on NASA that the loony left won't throw in a conservative, Shows how bereft of ideas they truly are.
