The Earth -- we breathe carbon dioxide. You know, if you -- there's nothing wrong with the automobile."

Conservatives repeat inane claim that CO2 can't be a pollutant because "we breathe" it | Media Matters for America

Right wing politicians and pundits obviously depend on the invincible ignorance of a certain percentage of the population. Karl Rove had a formula which stated Republicans should support education, "...up to a point. Too much education and they'll vote Democrat."

You'd have to be pretty uneducated to think that breathing in CO2 is going to cause death. It would actually be dangerous to have a room filled with only oxygen and breathe in 100% oxygen. It's good that there is C02, nitrogen and the other natural gases that make up air.

Yes, that's who is always expected to pay for all the lamebrain ideas they come up with -- they don't intend to pay themselves.

So now the liberals want to rid the earth of CO2. That's about as nutty as it gets.

100% O2 and your eyes burn.

Actually one theory put forth is as the CO2 increases so will the plant life. e.g the planet adapts as it always does.

......."His mind is still so open and flexible,” Sacks says. Which makes Dyson something far more formidable than just the latest peevish right-wing climate-change denier. Dyson is a scientist whose intelligence is revered by other scientists — William Press, former deputy director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory and now a professor of computer science at the University of Texas, calls him “infinitely smart.” Dyson — a mathematics prodigy who came to this country at 23 and right away contributed seminal work to physics by unifying quantum and electrodynamic theory — not only did path-breaking science of his own; he also witnessed the development of modern physics, thinking alongside most of the luminous figures of the age, including Einstein, Richard Feynman, Niels Bohr, Enrico Fermi, Hans Bethe, Edward Teller, J. Robert Oppenheimer and Edward Witten, the “high priest of string theory” whose office at the institute is just across the hall from Dyson’s. Yet instead of hewing to that fundamental field, Dyson chose to pursue broader and more unusual pursuits than most physicists — and has lived a more original life.

Among Dyson’s gifts is interpretive clarity, a penetrating ability to grasp the method and significance of what many kinds of scientists do.

So a few respected scientists are challenging the model and have new data to refute it.
Gore is silent and refuses to debate the issue.
Cap&Trade is being pushed so hard they don't even wait for the bill to be typed up to vote on it and they are dragging reps out of rehab to vote on it.

Does this raise a red flag for anyone but me that we may be getting bamboozled with this ?
This will top Madoff's ponzi scheme if it goes through.

Well you know it's a scam when the bill is not even read by everyone or debated.

I sense some corruption indictments coming up.

[A] pollutant is a substance that causes harm when present in excessive amounts. CO2 has been in the atmosphere since life on earth began, and in the right amounts CO2 is important for making the earth hospitable for continued life. But when too much CO2 is put into the atmosphere, it becomes harmful. We have long recognized this fact for other pollutants. For example, phosphorus is a valuable fertilizer, but in excess, it can kill lakes and streams by clogging them with a blanket of algae.
Indeed, while C02 is a natural gas, the current levels in the atmosphere are the result of human activities. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, "Since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700's, human activities, such as the burning of oil, coal and gas, and deforestation, have increased CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. In 2005, global atmospheric concentrations of CO2 were 35% higher than they were before the Industrial Revolution."

According the 2007 United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's 2007 "Synthesis Report," "Global GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions due to human activities have grown since pre-industrial times, with an increase of 70% between 1970 and 2004." It further explains, "Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most important anthropogenic GHG. Its annual emissions have grown between 1970 and 2004 by about 80%, from 21 to 38 gigatonnes (Gt), and represented 77% of total anthropogenic GHG emissions in 2004."

plant more trees and there would be no problem.that is the reason why co2 is going up because there is no trees to absorb it

Yes plants do like it, problem is WE are getting ride of plants as quickly as possible. There are no signs of plants having some sort of massive increase in reproduction and at the current rate we are digging a hole that may or may not be gotten out of. Yes, mother nature has a way of dealing with problems, she may deal with US one day if we do not learn to repect the planet we inhabit.

We have more trees in the USA now then we did in 1600.

New England and much of Pennsylvania was just about bare of trees between 1680 and 1900. Now you can't walk 10 ft without hitting a tree.
