The belief that home-schooled children do not receive a well-rounded education or do not mix well with children their own age is not true. We educated our children in all subjects. We raised our children in a close-knit midwestern town where neighbors are neighborly and willing to help their fellow man. Our kids played outside with no fear of drug pushers or drive-by shootings.
OMG

You educated your children in every subject except freedom of thought. I'm sure they've grown up to be the conservative drones you bred them to be.

This is like the Matrix 1, Conservatives are no longer born, they are grown.

You guys, we live in America and can choose what is best for our children. Well, at least for the moment but that could change with our rights being taken from us. Anyway, I chose to homeschool and used Calvert which I guess some could say I gave a public education to my children at home. At any rate, I loved it and we had a blast all those years. For high school I had to use Video and the reason was that we moved to this very rural are (husband's job) and I had intended on putting my children back into public school for high school but the prinicipal told me to continue to homeschool. So, I did all the way to college. One graduated at OSU and the other at Oklahoma Baptist University. Neither are social MISFITS.

Let each parent do what is right for their child. I never had feelings one way or another for those that chose to send their children to public school. It was my choice as it is their choice. THAT IS WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT AMERICA. You can choose to teach creation or evolution. You had your children do what you feel is right.

There are lots of things besides creation and evolution. Do you have any kind of limits on what someone has a "right" to teach their kids or is that as far as you've thought it through?

After reading the posts from the home schoolers, the overarching theme is the need to teach creationism and sheild their kids from anything else. It appears less about education and more about religious beliefs.

Also, what rights are people trying to take away? Abortion, Marriage?

The right to teach your kids anything you want I think.

My impression is that home-schooling is a way to keep your kids ignorant and naive. I loved going to school when I was a kid. I know that's not the case for all kids, but I can't imagine missing out on all of the good experiences I had.

Me 2..

I'm forever better for the stress, turmoil and battles that I experienced and overcame when my decisions were frankly of little consequence. It was a great time to get the bullshet under my belt..You know what's funny, these are probably some of the same people that claim that Obama didn't have enough experience but they'll sit back and raise a naive and ignorant kid with few tools in his/her life tool kit. A parent can't give a child life experiences, that child has to live it.

I guess one good thing would be that you can have a class reunion and a family reunion all at once.

You've been iexposed to some bad homeshoolers it seems if that's your impression.

Be careful with stereotyping. It's habit forming and contagious.

Serious questions...How can a child gain the life experiences that interacting with and learning from a variety of peers and teachers while sitting at home watching videos with his mom? How can creativity be cultivated when there is generally one voice and one perspective of education being taught for an extended period of years? How can interacting with a few like minded people regularly instill the benefits of diversity?

Point taken, but I still think kids are better off mixing with lots of other kids and a variety of teachers.
