I have no idea what the third link is supposed to prove. On 3/5 there was a list of companies that wanted to work in Iraq. Like there are in Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Alaska. Don't really get the significance.
Downing Street memo 7/23/2002.
The last link has nothing to do with the timing of the decision to attack Iraq.
If Panetta disagrees with Cheney, that's fine. Either ignore him or address Cheney's remarks, but presenting a straw man is not very convincing.
The source for the Op's link is an article in The NYer updating us on the torture issues now muddling life at the CIA even further, with Panetta as the linchpin of the story; it only leads off with P's observation about Cheney's comments -- a reply to the reporter's query IIRC.
Well I appreciate your well reasoned and articulate response but it doesn't really answer my post. Perhaps something more expansive will help me see Bush started planning to attack Iraq the day he was inaugurated.

I wasnt trying to answer your post directly since it wasnt addressed to me, but you seemed to be lacking information on the Bush Admin's pre-9/11 interest in invading Iraq.

Oh well thank you, I was well aware of the factors that went into liberating Iraq. My posts were in response to the misguided poster who claimed Bush entered office with the desire to attack Iraq. Rather that notion occurred after 9/11. If you recall Iraq was belligerent with UN inspectors and appeared to all the world to be trying to develop WMDs. It was only after the invasion that the truth came out. No less than Saddam himself said the reason he wanted the world to think he had WMDs was to intimidate the Iranians.

If you had read them you wouldnt still be saying something so dumb as "Rather that notion occurred after 9/11."
