At the time of elections, in inflation adjusted dollars? Will it ever happen again (I would bet on Eisenhower not having a mil at the time of elections). Should it happen again (not in 2012, obviously)?

I could be wrong, but I don't think Bill Clinton was a millionaire at the time he was elected in 1992.

Upon leaving office, Carter was deeply in debt - he only made his millions afterwards (mostly though books). I don't think either Carter, Clinton, or Obama were millionaires upon being elected, however they all are now (again, mostly from book sales).

Obama became a millionaire before he was elected to the US Senate.

Sorry, but Carter was EXTREMELY wealthy before becoming Gov. of Georgia, much less the President.

It seems you're probably right. Everything I can find online says Obama's net worth in 2007/2008 was 1.3 million.

According to a New York Times article in 1992, the joint net worth of the Clinton family was between $350,000 and $1 million, so yes, its likely Clinton was the last non-millionaire President.

I think its no coincidence that he was the last President who genuinely cared about the common man.

Clinton would be the answer your looking for. He had a net personal wealth of approx. $350,000-$925,000 in 1992 according to the FEC (candidates only have to disclose a range of net worth).
