As much as I do not agree with some of Obama's policies, at least they are trying to do something. I wonder how the GOP would be addressing the current economic crisis? Tax breaks for the rich? Since the GOP has not presented any other alternatives to what we have, I think that is really all we have.
ron paul is a republican!
we have to stop being locked into stereotypes. he has a web site that has been proposing solutions to some of our country's economic woes, even before the crisis hit. he proposed the audit the fed bill, which is bipartisan in its support. people need to contact their representatives to push them to sign onto this bill. americans have a right to know where their future money is going.
Yeah, I was an adult at the time. I was in the country's 70% tax bracket, and forced to pay 20% interest on loans I did not want or need.
Now, how much of the economic situation was Carter's fault. Did he control the Fed?
Didn't someone on "our side" set up the hostage situation? Didn't "they" benefit?
What programs did Carter launch that caused the economic problems of that time?
Wasn't it Banksters and the Military Industrial Complex that took out Carter and put in Reagan?
Yes, I agree - the hostage situation is what kept Carter from being elected, but that was the only situation I know of that was "manipulated" (or as you said - "set up"). The rest was Carter's inability to put meaningful legislation on the table. His Administration was a disaster (the way they performed w/ interacting w/ Congressional leaders and the public - remember his awful spokesperson? What was his name?)
Please know - I am NOT a big Reagan fan. Like you, I was in a high tax bracket, also, and it was hell. Plus, I lost my job (business I worked for closed - IRS problems). My point is . . . Carter turned everyone off pretty quickly into his tenure, b/c he was determined to push thru/ legislation w/o consensus from both sides of the aisle. His own party began deserting him, and I believe this is what will happen to Obama. When this ridiculous legislation goes into effect and starts hitting folks in the pocket, there will be a big chunk of Obama's electorate who are going to realize they were sold a bunch of hooey - and that O has a very specific agenda - lower the standard of living for the middle class and shift the $$ to the lower class.
I voted for JC twice, I voted for McGovern before JC, and I voted for Muskie rather than B-41, but then something happened. I began to see things without the rose colored glasses. I began to open my eyes to true economic reality. It's not about who is the most moral, most ethical, most well mannered, etc, it simply became a matter of free market economics.
I can and will debate anyone, I mean anyone who does not accept free-market (supply-vs-demand) economics. Any time, any where governments get into a position to adversely affect free-trade amongst its people and the entire world, we get adverse results for all.
A government that supports and protects a free market is one that provides the highest and best support for its people. I challenge anyone to disprove this fact.
NO REPUBLICAN, NO DEMOCRAT, NO LIBERTARIAN, NO COMMUNIST, NO SOCIALIST, or any HYBRID of the left and right or inbetween can win if a true free-trade is allowed to operate fairly and without hindrance.
I like all you said there and have given you all the props I can. I think that you can argue those points better than I. You must be pretty good at it since nobody has tried to disprove your words in 12 hours.
It is a pure shame that we had to have someone come along who agrees with Nasty Nancy about all her socialist beliefs and get elected to support her. We will just have to hope that the 44 Democrats who voted against her last Friday will continue to face up to her and that the 8 Republicans that voted with her won't be letting their investments get in their way later.
There is still hope but things have to get reversed soon or we will have some really bad legislation hanging around and a lame duck President before he has been there a full year. If they back off they won't be able to pass much of anything and it they don't people will start to see just how bad they really are.
