Well, we do know that there is a man made component. That this is not entirely natural. We will never be able to know what percentage is man made or not. However, that doesn't mean that we should discourage sustainable means of production and consumption.
Except we cut down trees at an alarming rate. So the input of CO2 is greater than the ability to absorb it...so we have a greenhouse effect.
We do in theory. Has the theory been proven in controlled environments replicating our planet? Not really. We just have a lot of people on city-data boating about this or that guy's resume when he/she says it's man made. As a member of academia, I know full well how presenting a backdrop of doom can be lucrative in the context of your grant proposals getting accepted.
CO2 is good for trees. It's considered their oxygen. Poisons such as mercury are good for no one.
O2 is good for people, but at high or low enough concentrations it can be damaging. Same with CO2 and plants
Eating 20 grams of Saturated fat in a day is recommended by the FDA based on a 2000 calorie diet. Go ahead and eat 80 grams of saturated fat a day for years and see what happens
