Just an observation, but politics tend to be cyclical. When you elect a President who is perceived to be more liberal, conservatism always gains traction. Added to the fact that when economies go into recession, especially severe recessions, populations that are more mindful of personal spending project that fiscal conservatism even more onto their government. So, newly elected "liberal" President, compounded by a difficult economy, and a rise in conservatism would be the expected result.
I don't disagree with you except the part about the "newly elected 'liberal' President." Obama ran as a centrist, notwithstanding the most liberal voting record in the Senate, and the media let him get away with the deception. What's happening is that people are finally catching on to who this guy really is. And they're having buyer's remorse.
Like the gal said, 0bama’s election awoke a sleeping giant. I'll bet a lot of people who had been brainwashed into believing they were democrats, and even voted for 0bama. But reality hit home, after they saw all the utter destruction and government take over by the democrats. These people have finally been forced to choose a side, whatever their political persuasion they lean towards it’s definitely NOT with the likes of Pelosi and 0bama.
Very like my political awakening when Clinton took office, I was not a republican, but I knew that I was definitely NOT like Clinton and the jokers he surrounded himself with.

But there were signs...the media was so in love with the idea of Obama as President
Bush left such a bad taste in peoples' mouths, they voted for Obama.
McCain should have had the decency to not accept his party's nomination, since he couldn't win. But it is always about THEM.
And like you said, the most liberal voting record in the Senate.
I was always trying to find what a "community organizer" was...What community they were organizing, and organizing for what?
I didn't vote for him. I voted for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party, who wanted to close the borders and ship the illegals back.

That's what is wrong with the 2 party system. They are technically one big party.
I am a conservative, but I didn't like Bush, he was no conservative to me, so I understand your problems with Clinton.
It is always best to have "Less is more" with government. It is better for the government to be smaller, do less, than to have a big government like we have. Lots of big bloated bureaucracies for people to hide in government jobs, getting nice paychecks and benefits, but basically doing very little. I find that a slap in the face to the people in the Armed Forces too.
I'd like to know how these polls were conducted before I draw any conclusions. If by phone, they may not include a large number of cell-phone only (CPO) households. According to a late 2008 CDC study, upwards of 20% of households today do not maintain land line phones. If these households were not included in Gallup's poll, then the results probably do not accurately reflect our nation's political landscape. CPO households typically lean left.

I said it months ago, liberal and left wingers are the best thing for the Conservative movement.
What people in this thread have said is that Conservatives are racist, Nazis etc. Same garbage that we have heard before. But what is more racist, continually separating people on their race or trying to include everyone? I find that the liberal mindset does the former by promoting diversity and Affirmative action. Conservatives prove themselves time and time again with their donations to charity and work via churches. Personally, I have seen my Mom do more for people via her church than my incredibly liberal Uncle who believes that government taxation absolves him of all guilt. I would rather have people working with and for others rather than the left wing big government mindset of just throwing dollars at an issue and thinking your are superior for doing so.
Keep it up liberals, you are your own worst enemy and the best thing for the conservative movement. We only wish to make a better society and provide more opportunity for people to improve, get a better education and step up. Too many moonbats spoil that stew.
This isn't earth shattering news. Public opinion frequently swings following one party gaining power. The Republicans should gain some seats in 2012 but the White House will largely depend on how effective (or ineffective) the bailouts and healthcare reform are.
