I've got $100 that says the tell-all books these kids are going to write will start coming out within five years.

Anyone care to make a wager?

I don't respect her choice, it's barbaric.
What's barbaric about it? She sees a doctor quite regularly and is in excellent health. She manages a well-run household that is clean and organized. The children are healthy and active. They are well-mannered. The entire family goes to church, prays regularly. The children are home-schooled and appear to be literate and adept at numbers and accounting. What exactly is so barbaric about a husband and wife rejecting birth control and letting nature or God or what have you determine how many children they should have. Her choices are just as valid as yours. I, like you, might never make those choices. And I might put together an argument as to why those choices might not be suitable for me. But as long as Michelle Duggar feels those choices were right for her, then I don't know why people would feel the need to demean her. Comments like "oink-oink" or remarks about a low IQ obviously are intended to demean her. And I think that it's uncalled for.

And they manage to afford that lifestyle without public assistance.

And there is nothing wrong with her IQ. She's not due until March 18th. So she discovered she was pregnant 4-5 weeks into her pregnancy. She was surprised because normally she has gone longer after having a child before becoming pregnant again. So demeaning her intelligence is illogical.
I have to wonder if they just push all health concerns aside for her as well as the babies.

No they allow it but fine (tax) people for violating the rule.

One-child policy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The policy is enforced at the provincial level through fines that are imposed based on the income of the family and other factors."

No different in practice than what you suggest.

She sees a doctor quite regularly. And her births have been relatively uncomplicated. So I'm unsure as to what health concerns you think she is putting aside.

well I thought that it was healthier to wait at least a year after a pregnancy in order to give your body time to properly heal and that getting pregnant too soon can increase your chances of premature delivery and other complications. With her age and number of previous births I think that would be a valid concern....don't know why you seem to take every comment about them so defensively. Are you one of their relatives?

I was wrong. But that doesnt change my mind just because China does it. I dont have a set list of stances I must go by for every issue. I have muy own opinion for everything.

Still...there should at least be no child tax credit. I dont see how giving people a tax credit for having kids and taxing people when they have kids is any different in principle.

Its just my belief that too many people are having too many kids and a lot of times are unable to provide for the kids the way they should. I feel if you are going to have a kid you need to be in a position to give that kid everything it needs and not mooch off the rest of society.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be defensive. But I do think they deserve to be defended when they are being attacked. And while it may be healthier to wait a year, their religious beliefs don't allow them to take measures to prevent a pregnancy from happening sooner. They haven't spaced their children out intentionally, they left the spacing in the hands of nature or God. After 18 previous children, I think their doctor is well aware of potential complications and will be alert to any signs indicating such complications.

No, I'm not a relative.
