WH to release education speech early - First Read - msnbc.com

"The White House is releasing the full text of the president's speech to students on Monday -- a full 24 hours before President Obama delivers the speech live at noon ET a local Arlington, VA, high school. Obviously, this means parents and teachers will have plenty of time to read the text of the speech and decide for themselves about the content."

I'm glad this is happening, but I also find it unfortunate that the hysterical fringe needs to be pampered and babied in this manner.

The speech will also be broadcast on C-SPAN for us all to see.

It has become obvious that many do not trust our President.
The President needs to work to get back that trust. It's all well and good to disagree with his politics but even GWB and previous Presidents were able to talk to school kids without fear and distrust from parents.

IMO, I think Obama's campaign style speeches of fear mongering and finger pointing are doing him more harm than good.

It is time to admit that whatever Obama does, it will be condemned by a certain segement of the population. My concern is for his physical safety, as well as an even more firm conviction that our health care delivery system needs fixing big time. . . some of these folks undoubtedly need much more mental health care than they are currently getting!
It is at times like these, when people of Obama's intellect and stature choose to speak to our schoolchildren, that I sorry that I do not have kids and grandkids to communicate with about the importance of wisdom (and compassion) in government, about the social and spiritual risks of a system that denies needed health care to millions, and about "critical thinking skills". . . as well as emotional and intellectual honesty. . . something that even the legitimate "conservative" faction seems to be abandoning at this point!

It's more than just a "fringe". A small fringe group doesn't have much power. For the WH to change the wording and release the speech ahead of time indicates that there is more distrust from more than a few fringe people.

Look beyond the "politics" of this. Why are so many people distrusting of the President when he speaks ?

This thread is about education, not health care. You're off topic for this thread.

Happy Texan the fear and distrust you percieve have more to do with who you like politically than anything else.
President Obama's speech is nothing more than a hopefull message to kids. Where is the fear and distrust? Oh it is hidden in your bias.
Want to talk about fear mongering?
"Mushroom clouds over American cities" by none other than Condi Rice!

With hussein obama's past and all his nafarious associations and criminal racist administration, why would any parent want him addressing their children? It is pure propaganda.

Parents are kicking this bum to the curb.

Things have become FAR removed from simple "distrust".

There is a growing element of fanaticism and irrational thinking and behavior.

We have always had those elements, but they were pacified to some extent during previous administrations.

I don't see this as a purely "political" phenomena...while it is for some, there is now a racial aspect in the mix, like it or not.

Furthermore, many Americans formed their overall distrust for the presidency during the Nixon years. Party affiliation isn't a given.
