As of today, I figure a large number of people are unhappy, after all the economy blows and sucks, we are in two increasingly unpopular wars, and amidst the frayed nerves, emotionally charged and reactionary ideologies are seeping to the surface. Even still, out of the majority of people who are unhappy, only 15-20% are truly angry, even if they are really loud. Out of those, only 1 in a 1000 will get off their backsides and actually do anything, the rest will pontificate their protestations in various forums and at water coolers and life will go on.

If things get worse, then things may change depending upon severity. Until such time, Americans are just too lazy to do anything but flap their gums, after all the NFL hasn't been interrupted and NASCAR and American Idol are still on air via a 42" LCD...

The hill country in central Texas is very nice. And then you have the Gulf. I can't think of too much scenery in Oklahoma being "beautiful" or impressive, and our cities are definitely not pretty by any means. They are just huge sprawling communities. In oklahoma, minorities live in the cities, white people live in the suburbs.

Amtrak?!?! The heartland flyer that only goes to fort worth(not even Dallas) so you have to take another commuter train from Fort worth to Dallas? That Amtrak? Pretty much worthless, no one rides it but BNSF employees going back home.

You can't hardly find a sidewalk to save your life. Only ride a bike if you want to get ran over and die. If I remember right, Oklahoma has the 4th highest divorce rate in the country. The third most smokers in the country. One of the lowest per capita incomes in the country.

But hey, the taxes are low, so the government will take less of your crappy paycheck. And who needs sidewalks or bike lanes anyway? Only poor people walk. Who wants to walk anyway? The cities are soo sprawled out, its about 1.5 miles to the nearest park, 3 miles to the nearest grocery store. So we can all just drive everywhere we go, then we can have an obesity rate of almost 30%!

Sherman was too soft on them. All he did was bring the myth of the Confederate Army down inflicting casualties at 10-1.

Never happen, the american sheeple will put up with anything.

Coming back from years in Europe I noticed 2 things immediately.
1. The incredible uglieness and blight upon senses cause by the forests of billboards and overhead utility lines that makes most of US just plain butt-ugly.
2.The comlete and total inability of the people to even think outside the parameters set for them by the media which cover the gamut of thought from A to B .

In the war between the states only 5% of the population actually stood the line. There are at least 85 million gun owners if only 10 % stand the line it would be the largest army in the world.

And which side will they line up on

As states secede the Federal government will be made up of the people who oppose secession and they will become more radical in their direction.
Don't assume only one side has guns and will use them.

Since I won't fly, I take the train back to visit in California. Boy that trip from Ft Worth west is a LONG ride through Texas. Admitedly a few places in west Texas have something going for them besides desert but it sure gets old. And when you have big banks of trees and lots of green and you came from socal, where that does not exist, its quite beautiful. And yes, there are faults, but I still wouldn't go back to Riverside, right in the middle of megasuburbsocal. Guess its all in what you want. The town I live in I would not call a city though it is called one with about 9k residents but the downtown and mainstreet do have curbs and its catch as catch can in the residental areas. But then go a few blocks to Main from my house and turn left and a few blocks later you run out of town.

I have irritations about here, but small compared to where I came from. But in keeping with the thread, I would much rather be here than in the middle of socal when things slip and get ugly. I'm a follower of the philosophy that societied die from within and as they become dysfuctional the citizenry becomes angry. When that anger is directed I'd much rather be here with my teeny city and its old roads than stuffed in with millions. And in the meanwhile I take my small government check and it goes soooo much further since it also costs a lot less to live here.

OK, let's talk about martial law for a moment. When civil authorities have lost control and are overwhelmed, martial law is declared and the military restores order. An present example would be parts of our cities that are controlled by armed gangs and that local police are afraid to go into. This is a situation where martial law is justified but is regretably not used. Our uncontrolled southern border is another instance. When is the last time martial law has been declared in the US? The San Franscisco earthquake at the beginning of the last century?

For there to be a civil war, there must be a unifying cause. There is no great unifying cause. Abortion rights? The Ten Commandments in court houses? Same Sex marriage? Universal health care? Government control of the internet? A ban on texting while driving? What cause are you willing to die for? Cancelling sports on TV might do it for some of us. We are not a principled society any longer and have no common inviolable principles to rally around. We don't care what happens as long as it isn't happening to us. We are overdue for enslavement. But consider this about "us against them": they are us.

Vote against the incumbent, everytime, forever.

Gurantee you less that 1% will "stand the line" and those will be shooting each other primarily.
