Manufacturing jobs in the USA had migrated abroad anyhow.

I agree with the sentiment - it is important that all countries get back to making products, instead of concentrating on providing services.

Blame the US multinationals who migrated their jobs abroad, instead.

Blame the globalist corporations AND their puppets. Obama is just the latest puppet of them, Bush was also one, Clinton was one. Most of Congress too. The problem for this country now is that the global corporations and banks decide who runs this country - they do, they just have to give the illusion there are two political parties and we vote for change.

If there is blame to be assessed, place it where it belongs -- with those glorious Free Markets that right-wingers love so much. It is these which have proclaimed that the US workforce is too highly skilled, educated, and productive to be devoting its time to simple manufacture when the world's generally declining need for per-unit human input into manfacturing can be met by willing and industrious foreigners who happen to be less skilled, educated, and productive than we are, but who can nevertheless provide these inputs at a much lower overall cost.

None of this is the fault of Bill Clinton. nor of NAFTA, nor even of evil multinational corporations. It is the fault of Free Markets that are telling us to put our talents to better use. That is the signal that is being sent.

Now, all these manufacturing wages being paid abroad are creating new and sometimes quite substantial pockets of demand. New niches and segments of a global middle class are being created. What can we here is the US offer them as these people begin to expand their roles as international consumers? That is the question to be asking. Siiting around wondering who we can put blame on for all this is a complete waste of time...

U-6 is an official number.

the fedgov. changed the way it counts unemployed people some time back.

Also uncounted in the U-3 numbers are those receiving supplementary federal unemployment payments, they are counted separately.

Feel free to pick whatever number you want to make your point though.
LOL....that is pretty much what the shills will do.

blame the government for
1) rewarding the offshoring of labor, importing of cheap illegal labor, and implementation of dishonest "free trade" agreements

2) bailing out the corporations that would have failed and instead are now being rewarded with giant bonuses courtesy of our government sponsored bailout.

blame both parties in the government for trying to devalue our dollar.

To those who keep spouting off about unemployment being a lagging indicator, could you provide some evidence of this being the case in this depression?

In a society based almost entirely upon consumer spending it would seem that high unemployment will cause the depression to last longer

The little chart that you are referring to was made prior to Obama even taking office. It was made about 2 months prior to the Stimulus package being started in which 2-3 months worth of horrible job reports came out. This projection was also made prior to the 4th quarter financial data being released. Everyone knew the economy was horrible, but no one (right or left) knew the extent until the 4th quarter financial data was released. Once that came out, we saw things were much worse than anyone realized. Once we knew that data the so called claims of the unemployment topping out at 8% was over with.
Do I "purposely ignore other posts"?? As if, because some 0bama apologist manufactures some excuse for 0bama, and that means I'm supposed to except it and move on? LOL

In order for 0bama to pass his stimulus he had his economic team release a report that estimated unemployment wouldn’t rise above 8 percent IF we passed his stimulus package. He and his team were way off the mark, which means they based their report on faulty information, fudged it for partisan reasons, or just plain had no clue, either way, they proved their were either incompetent and unreliable. The CBO has always been more accurate then the wizards of smart on the 0bama team.

Time and time again, 0bama has shown his incompetence, his rosy predictions are always proven to be false, he even had to redo his own deficit estimates and increase it by $2 trillion, and most likely another $2 trillion more.

Why should I ever believe anything this man says, when he is always proven wrong? Is he purposely lying to distort the facts? Are his advisers just political hacks, who only lie in order to pass legislation?

Even 0bama's wife see the need to lie in order to get her way, this seems to be a pattern with these people. So who can believe a damn thing these people say?

"Some of my best memories are sitting on my dad’s lap, cheering on Olga and Nadia, Carl Lewis, and others for their brilliance and perfection.”

Michelle Obama was 20 years old when Carl Lewis first attended the Olympic, in 1984.

Do yourself a favor - go to the BLS website and gain some knowledge. U6 is an official number, but one they don't like to use, for obvious reasons.

And seeing how this adminstration pushed the stimulus as a "jobs, jobs, jobs" creator (recall remarks of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden), I would be suspicious of ANY legislation they try to tie to jobs.

Remember all the urgency and rush rush rush to pass the stimulus no one wanted? So much of a rush that Obama waited until after a 3 day weekend to sign it, and took AF1, to Colorado?

Now we have the urgency and rush, rush, rush to pass healthcare because it will "create jobs."

We must rush, rush, rush, to pass cap and tax because it will "create jobs."

It's all a bunch of BS. These DC idiots are using the unemployment and economic downturn to pass their agenda, with big promises of jobs and new this and that, when the only thing we will get out of it will be higher taxes, FOR EVERYONE. Watch how quickly that 250K and above income only being taxed will drop like a lead fart down to middle class.

What a bunch of "fresh, new" ideas these idiots have: tax and spend. Gee, why didn't I think of that. It's working bang up, isn't it?
