LOCKLAND - A Lockland resident has filed a lawsuit against the village, claiming a display of the Ten Commandments outside town hall is unconstitutional.
Christopher Knecht wants the sign removed and a court order to prevent any future displays of "religious fables and myths."
I'm torn on this issue. Its clear that the "ten commandments" are part of religious laws. However, its clear that they are also in line with many of the laws that we hold true.
Honestly, how many people see the 10 commandments before they go to court? I'd like to see a picture of them, that might help me make the decision. If its just a small part of the structure, no biggy. If it were a huge massive looming thing, yeah, I'd probably say remove it.

The lawyers would love that! There'd be suits and counter-suits for years, all an 'effort' to define small/huge, all with billable hours of course
It's a religious display.
Perhaps if they counter it with a display of Sharia law, Buddhist tenets, Hindu law, etc. etc. etc. it wouldn't be as offensive.
With all of the places where they are perfectly welcome under the law to stick whatever religious icons and displays that they want, why are religious fanatics so obsessed with sticking them in the one place where they are neither appropriate nor allowed?
Rather than the Ten Commandments, we should perhaps be using public property and buildings to post religion warning labels. Maybe something like this would work...
There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. All religions are but myth and superstition that harden hearts and enslave minds.
That ought to get the message across, and certainly there would be nothing wrong in using the facilities of the government to do that...

We should give all these nut cases their own island somewhere where they can live happily without being bothered by God, or any referrences to God. Of course, they will live in anarchy and wind up killing one another.
