OSLO - President Barack Obama on Friday won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Obama was honored for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
I must admit I am a bit surprised.
I could see it if he had at least closed Gitmo.
I guess the Nobel committee doesn't watch Saturday Night Live.
However, I congratulate our President, am happy for him, and trust that he, and we, will gain the momentum to make a reality out of our dreams of peace and justice.
Congratulations on having a President who's been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Although I don't think he has done much to earn it, as he just hasn't had enough time to prove his worth (or lack thereof) yet, I do believe that his being elected sent a really positive message to the rest of the world, so congrats.
Congratulations! As I said in a similar thread, it's probably too soon for him to receive (and really deserve) that award, but since we were all so hopeful when he was elected, and I at least retain my hopes, that's certainly of importance as well. The Nobel Peace Prize is after all an European-based award and while in the States Obama had supporters and people who would never want him in the White House, the Obama-mania, and even some healthy envy, around Europe was virtually without exception.
My understanding is the decision was made back in February at about two weeks into his presidency. I guess Hopey-Changey was all that was needed to wrap it up.
