U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., a former secretary of the Navy, said Wednesday that he supports Defense Secretary Robert Gates' decision to begin allowing women to serve on submarines.
It's a terrible idea. You have to be quiet on submarines so the enemy doesn't hear you. How is the US Navy going to get a bunch of females to shut up?
you have got to be kidding. women in the service of their country take it as seriously as any man. keeping silent when need be would not be an issue. how childish to think otherwise
Not unless you count common sense. Given the nature of submarine service, with an all female crew there would be so much bitchiness and infighting that discipline and morale would totally break down. Go right ahead with this idea if you insist, but say goodbye to the gals; in the event of war they would be sunk at the onset.
another bunch of total BS. the same thing can be said for the testosterone floating around an all male crew. women soldiers take their service as seriously as any man

Their patriotism, dedication to duty, and intelligence is not being denied or questioned. What is being debated is the physical shortcomings of women compared to men, and their emotional makeup and stability when subjected to the rigors of military service, in this case, submarine duty, and their impact on the efficiency of their unit when serving with men.

Let say you get a call from the ISG, he needs a detail to move a heavy wooden desk from the first floor to the second. There is no elevator. Send the ISG two female soldiers and see what happens.
Yes, women get pregnant. On or off ship. Mandated birth control would solve the "problem," but I don't really see pregnancy as a problem.
Then you don't know what you're talking about. If the ship or sub doesn't have the facilities to deal with the pregnancy or the woman is beyond a certain point in her pregnancy then she's off the ship. Sub crews are already limited.
