The Associated Press: Lesbian student in Miss. fights for tuxedo photo

Why is this such a problem? It is a picture in the yearbook. If this is how she wants to be remembered so be it!

No problem !

Everybody where I live wears whatever they want for their pictures.

As long as it doesn't come close to nudity , it should be no problem.

What the heck? Anyone should be able to wear whatever they want for their school picture - boy or girl or gay or straight or whatever. As long as it covers relevant anatomy, who cares?

Oh, and being gay doesn't have anything to do with how someone dresses. These people are dragging sexuality into this for no reason.

Why on Earth is the school making a big deal out of this?

Just let her wear the tux if she wishes.

What does being a lesbian have to do with cross dressing for your senior pictures? It's not like they are making her wear a dress.

I'd expect the policy was initiated to keep a bunch of clowns from 'ruining' the yearbook by dressing up goofy...which some kids would do. It isn't meant to discriminate, but to keep the yearbook consistent for everyone who buys it.

Sturgis said she should get to decide how she looks in the senior photo.
And I agree....she can have any senior picture taken that she wants but that doesn't have anything to do with the picture for the yearbook. Most students take 2 sets of pics, one dorky one for the yearbook and one real one that they pass out to friends and family.

That being said, I think the school can make exceptions as they see fit to allow the lesbian student to cross dress but keep the class clown from dressing like a girl as a stunt. Of course then class clown will sue the school.....

Let the girl wear a tux. It's only a picture in a book which will end up buried in a box in the attic, lost in a flood, lost in a move, chewed by the dog, etc.

Sheesh!

My senior year picture day fell on the same day we had a band concert. A lot of girls didn't feel like changing clothes so they're senior pictures are of them in white tuxedo shirts, red jackets and red bow ties.

The school board doesn't have anything else to worry about?

All you had to do was mention Mississippi and therein lies your answer.
