As Democratic congressional leaders and White House officials work to shape health care bills that will go to the House and Senate floors, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that support for a government-run health plan to compete with private insurers has rebounded from its summertime lows and now wins clear majority support from the public.

Ah, which is not the same thing as saying what percentage are for or against a public option. For example if Rasmussen were to call me today and asked me the question, do I approve of the health care reforms proposed by President Obama and the congressional Democrats, I would most decidedly say no, mainly because there is no public option.
Gallup is in line with this poll showing 51% approve 41% disapprove. In fact, every poll except for Rasmussen shows the majority approve... common sense would tell you they're probably a bit skewed.

In my undergraduate statistics textbook told me that the way people ask question will affect the poll.
It is better for those poll companies to also post their questions shoulder by shoulder with the rate.

Unfortunately, healthcare reform does not equal public option
