Even though in all reality smokeless tobacco is much more polite in terms of being wary of the second hand repercussions of tobacco smoke, and just the smell of tobacco smoke that lingers around.
I smoke and I find it chew gross. I had this friend who used to carry around a plastic cup and was constantly spitting into it. Ewwwwww.
I am very concerned about the non-smoking people around me when I smoke (which is 2 times a day.) I definitely don't want to bother anyone with it. I only smoke outside and I never smoke near people who don't smoke. I never stand in a place where people are going in and out of doors or anything like that. I am extremely conscious about smoking in front of children.
I often tell people that the only thing I regret in my life, that I would take back if I could, is starting smoking.
However, if I am sitting alone on a bench smoking and you come sit beside me, please don't complain- you could have sat somewhere else.

Ha, good one! I smoke & yes, it's a crap addiction & wish I wouldn't have started but alas, it's a vice. Everyone has one. I am bothered by the sanctimonious nature of non-smokers, although not everyone is like that. I highly doubt that smokers are blowing smoke in non-smokers faces like they like to complain about, however yes smoke does waft, it's not deliberate. As far as I can see, smoking outside is legal & I don't really see how non-smokers can be so bothered by it that they can't move or have to be rude about it. I'm not smoking to **** you off, so kindly try to keep the attitude in check.

So...how do you deal with the car exhaust...which is ten times worse than a cigarette?

It's easier to get away from a car exhaust than when you're in a crowded bus with smokers, like the O.P.'s old man.

Besides, driving is more essential, smoking is not essential at all. Your argument is weak, weak, weak.

There you go...making excuses. The only thing that is weak, is your tollerance for the rights of others...
