Does it really matter what it is? I am more likely to say Merry Christmas around December 22-25th. Before then it is -have a nice day! If I see someone that is likely not to celebrate Christmas I don't say Merry Christmas. If I see a Jewish person I am likely to say Happy Hanuka.
Point of the matter is, who gives a damn. It is just a greeting. When did greeting somebody in a friendly way become offensive to anybody?
The last time I checked America is mostly a Christian country and Christmas has been a national celebration since this nation's founding. If immigrants are offended by this, then why do they come here?
If I were to immigrate to Isreal, I wouldn't complain about someone telling me "Happy Hanukkah". Nor would I be offended if I immigrated to a Muslim country and someone told me "Happy Ramadan".
America was created by Europeans. And Europeans have made up most of the population of this nation ever since. If you don't like the fact that this country has customs based on Western Civilization and Christianity, then please leave. Don't stay here and make things miserable for the majority population.
Now I am just waiting for someone to say "well the Native Americans were here first". What I have to say to that in response is that this continent was wildnerness when they lived here. Immigrants didn't have any interest in coming here until Europeans carved a great nation out of an uncivilized continent. So your argument will have no validity to this topic.
Check again, A Christian should not make a post that will hurt others for such a petty reason.
The right-wing talk shows stirred up this debate a few years back. It's pretty silly. They like to pretend it's some concerted effort to destroy a religious holiday.
I just live and work around far too much diversity to try and force some singular religious worldview on them

mostly. Not completely. What does it hurt to say "Happy holidays" when it covers everyone celebrating anything in the near future? I am a christian who celebrates Christmas and I am not offended when someone says "happy holidays." I don't get what all the fuss is about. As far as the "people who don't like it can leave" attitude, America is supposed to be the "melting pot" of all different nationalities and thus religions. This is not a theocracy. If you don't like it, maybe YOU should leave. And who says it is "immigrants" who are the ones being offended?
ETA, the OP seems to think that the Europeans were not immigrants here, but everyone else who followed is. Or maybe just the non-Christians who followed... really? does that make any sense at all? What does that say about you? maybe that you are a bigot?

do you remember that website that used to ask you to upload your spam emails, and it would roll them on a slow, slow scroll while it played (I think) elevator music?
That wd be the perfect presentation for so many posts on this forum
