Sure someone's viewpoint might seem ridiculous to you, if not horrendous, but they deserve respect just the same, even as you argue against it.

Do you think you resort to belittling or putdowns or attacks when you respond to a thread you dislike?
I find this happen when one side presents facts and the other side has nothing to refute those facts and resorts to belittling rather that facts.

There are a lot of posters on these forums that need to learn how to do a google search, and need to do some some homework before posting willy nilly.

I am amazed at how many do not seem to have a clue. Maybe that comes with age and experience.

I try to ignore the absurd.

Maybe it is because.....

I actually think it can be dangerous to respect all opinions, or even to treat all opinions as if they were worthy of reasoned debate. Not all opinions are created equally but oppositely. Some of them are just crap.

I've seen two sides....some people have very thin skin (when they're losing an argument), they take what other posters say wayyy tooooo seriously...posts are just black marks on a computer screen put there by total strangers.....sane people don't take them seriously.....

They read "someone having a different view" as belittling or as an attack on them.

They should remember: It's ALL funny....and none of it matters....

Sometimes it is satire, some times it is just a way of pushing the other person's buttons, but many times it is the result of a person who is not knowledgeable enough on the subject to articulate a rebuttal, or their own argument just got roundly thumped and tossed in the ****can, and all they have left is ridicule and "neener-neener-boo-boo".

Agreed.

Some folks just seem to walk around in an angry green cloud of funk; both the people on the left and right extremes. They take everything out of context, and often focus on one inelegant phrase in a post and go on an ideological rant or personal attack, to devolve the debate or stir the pot and inflame people who were not otherwise disposed. Hmmm, did I just describe a troll?

There are threads where you can read serious discussions and they are interesting...to a point..... the silly threads are just more fun...this is not the Supreme Court....it's a chat room....more like Congress ...

The point is opinions can be idiotic because they're opinions. Your respect is neither sought nor required.

I agree. People like that are idiots and should be treated as such.
