Someone that uses the government to encourage or enforce traditional values or behaviors based on the belief that these are what keep people civilized and decent. Some social conservatives are big government and others are small government.
* Neo Conservative *
Someone that supports using American economic and military power to bring liberalism, democracy and human rights to other countries.
* Paleoconservative *
Someone who emphasizes religious heritage, national and Western identity, tradition, civil society and classical federalism, the importance of demographics and an anti-interventionist policy of Robert Taft.
Paleoconservatives oppose immigration, communism, authoritarianism, social democracy and entitlement programs. The most prominent figure is TV commentator and author Pat Buchanan.
* Libertarian *
Someone who believes in minimizing or entirely eliminating government interventionism in all aspects of life; including economic, personal and in foreign policy matters.
* Classical Liberal *
Someone who supports individual rights as pre-existing the state, a government that exists to protect those moral rights, ensured by a constitution that protects individual autonomy from other individuals and governmental power, private property and a laissez-faire economic policy.
So... which one is you?
By the way anybody that wants to post the differences between liberals?
I consider myself a cross between a paleo conservative and a classical liberal.
I am mostly libertarian but bordering on Classic Liberalism.
Yep. That's why there is the Libertarian Party and the Establishment Party. The latter made up of those who used to be republicans and/or democrats who learned that they can more effectively drain the treasure from the populace by working together to create even more government.
Why is there just one classification of liberal on your thread, and why the title "dummys guide to conservatives" if yo also include libertarians and liberals...

From those definitions, I suppose I would be a Classical Liberal. Though I also believe in Federalism and originalism.
I'm the kind who thinks separation of church and state is a good thing. I think irresponsible spending is a bad thing. I think unnecessary entanglement in foreign wars is bad policy. I think an unholy alliance between government and big business does not serve the nation's best interests.

In other words, I'm a former conservative.
I disagree man. You can still be a conservative, but a former republican.

You're really working overtime to try to change the definition of "conservative", aren't you? So far you've maintained your 0-for-everything record, I'm sure it was no accident.
The funniest part is where you present an almost-exactly correct definition of a conservative... and then assign it to "liberal".

Great sense of humor there!
When one refers to classical liberalism, he is not referring to the modern day ideology associated with liberalism (welfare, healthcare, etc. provided by the government), he is actually referring to the ideals of the founders of the nation, which at the time, was considered a liberal ideology.
Now... I should also note that the modern day ideology associated with liberalism is anything but liberalism. Liberalism and liberty share a common root word, liber, which means free. However, the modern ideology most associated with the word liberalism espouses anything but individual liberty. Rather preferring collective, social rights and infringing upon individual liberties for the "common good." The term "classical liberalism" is used to set true liberals, those who believe in individual liberty, apart from the socialistic liberals of today.
I see a little of myself in all those groups with the exception of big government social conservative. I recently took a political test and I scored near the border of where libertarian and conservative intersected.
