More signs of a recovering economy - manfacturing continues to grow.
"The US manufacturing sector grew for a fifth consecutive month in December, with an index of activity hitting its highest level since April 2006, according to an industry report released Monday.
The Institute for Supply Management said its index of national factory activity rose to 55.9 in December from 53.6 in November. The median forecast of 60 economists surveyed by Reuters was for a reading of 54.3. "

Great news. Remember all those wing nuts who said auto sales would crash after the cash for clunkers program ended? Well, that hasn't happened. In fact Cash for Clunkers cleared out a lot of inventory and now factories have restarted in order fill demand.
In any case I wish the article would elaborate a little bit more, any ideas of which particular report they are talking about? Would like to read the source material..

This is very good news.
2004 was a fantastic year for the index though, lets try to get back up into the 60's like then.
I noted they didn't mention in the article "what" type of manufacturing is bouncing back and in what areas. I also noted a side box on that page that had "China's manufacturing growing at a faster pace." I'd love to see the statistics where they got this info about the U.S. manufacturing since they have just about all but shipped all of that work overseas.
