Keep in mind that the Earth warms and cools over very large periods of time. If you really wanted to see if man did contribute to warming, you'd need data that spanned over several millenniums in order to work out the changing weather variables.

For instance, here's another chart:

Unless you believe that the Romans and Vikings had combustible engines, we're actually well on the downslope now with another possible upswing in temperatures after 2019.

//www.city-data.com/forum/12271485-post24.html I am aware of climatic variations/cycles like the Milankovitch Cycle etc. and the age of our planet. Greenland, the Artic, Glaciers(worldwide), the Antartic Ice Shelves, Siberian and Alaskan permafrost etc. are ALL MELTING, (also adding methane to the "mix of greenhouse gases") and changing the planet's albedo, thereby accelerating the warming trend. What percentage of climate change that is attributed to Man's intervention is inconsequential. These things are happening and we better react soon...the cause is a moot point....relative to the consequences of humanity's inaction.

Brilliant deduction, my dear Watson. It's getting colder because it's getting warmer ..brilliant!

It takes a special mind to uncover such hidden mysteries. And to think I have believed that warmer means hotter and cooler means colder for all these years!!!
So did I....I guess you learn something new every day...

That's all very comical in a pinheaded way but weather and climate are very different things, you see.

The coldest start to a new year since World War II is shivering into the record books.

Chelly Amin, a meteorologist at Huntsville's National Weather Service office, said the average temperature so far in January has been just 26.4 degrees.

It just keeps getting more comical...BTW...where's Mr. Hot Air AL hiding?

But that's my point. The threat of this vicious cycle should have by now triggered a worldwide temperature increase, which it hasn't. And as long-term records show, when the planet warms, it doesn't continually keep warming. If we follow your logic, the planet should have continued warming from the very first warming cycle of its life. But over the thousands of years, we can see that it is reversible and the planet has recovered from much hotter temperatures in the past. In fact, the Arctic at one point was as hot as Florida.

55 million years ago, at the very end of the Paleocene there was an drastic incident called the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum. You can see it as the spike labelled "PETM" on this graph. Ocean surface temperatures worldwide shot up by 5-8°C for a few thousand years - but in the Arctic, it heated up even more, to a balmy 23°C (73°F). This caused a severe dieoff of little ocean critters called foraminifera, and a drastic change of the dominant mammal species. What caused this? Maybe a sudden release of greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide from volcanos, or a "methane burp" released from gas hydrates on the sea floor. People have indeed found drastically different carbon isotope ratios at this time.

At the start of the Eocene, the continents were close to where they are now, but the average annual temperature in arctic Canada and Siberia was a balmy 18° C (65° F). The dominant plants up there were palm trees and cycads. Fossil monitor lizards (sort of like alligators) dating back to this era have been found in Svalbard, an island north of Greenland that's now covered with ice all year. Antarctica was home to cool temperate forests, including beech trees and ferns. In particular, our Earth had no permanent polar ice caps!
So while carbon can be a factor, it certainly isn't the only factor. Our CO2 output isn't anywhere near to what Mother Nature can do.

Can you please stop with the "it's cold so global warming is wrong" threads? It's idiotic and annoying to see it every f'ing day. It's winter. Deal with it you boob.
