Unions have nothing to do with this so why try to throw a turd in a non-existant punchbowl. More baiting?

They are making a shift in their business plan for SAM's because what they have been doing has not been working. If they had bogged down in union contracts they would likely not have the flexibility to reshape their business model and have to stick with something that isn't working.

"I would argue that from an economic standpoint it's somewhat nominal," said David Strasser, a retail analyst with Janney Montgomery Scott. "It looks a lot worse than it really is from a layoff standpoint. My read is the majority of employees are going to be picked up by Shopper Events."

So, what is your point exactly?

Moderator cut: Unnecessary comment

Maybe his point was that if they had a union they wouldn't have gotten laid off... but I'm not too sure either.

Funny, after all the rage was wal mart abuse of its employees, my uncle got a part-time job doing something or other at Wal Mart.

Said it was the best retail job he ever had. Flexible hours, nice, intelligent management and so on.

Weird.

Wait...I thought Wal-Mart was a ruthless cost cutting business that festers like a virus, bankrupting other companies. You mean to say that competition still exists in the face of Wally World?

Something isn't working, try to make a change. Stores aren't performing, eliminate the stores. If they were tied up with union contracts then they wouldn't be able to make quick changes to try to improve business. They'd be forced to take the loss by maintaining the current number of employees and pass on the cost to the consumer through increased prices and poor quality of service.

I guess some would rather see WalMart go under than shed jobs to get through tough times.
