Ok, not that i am disagreeing with what is being said here.. but we have MASSIVE issues.. this is just one of them.. To say the country is failing, solely because we don't all get a long is leaving out a lot. Like massive corporate and government corruption, the loss of small business(across the board, all industry), then the last is that we try to unite an HUGE span of land under one ideology.. Each state, even cities in states are so different, how can we expect 50 states of very unique thoughts/idea/beliefs to all follow one mantra... Well, recapping here, you can't and it hasn't worked in anything less than something that is forced.

The only real solution i can see is to give HUGE sovereignty to each state, so that we don't have to oppress each other over our differences. Its the only thing that makes sense to me.

I mean really, look at the rest of the world, who compares to us as far as size/area goes? China, and they are totalitarian...(mostly) We need something like what Europe has going, each country is left to do what it does, but they are a collective of sorts. Its the only thing that makes sense to me, in this America.

Swansen - That form of government is called a Representative Democratic Republic. We had one until the corporate warmongers took over.

Nope.

We're failing as a country because we keep moving farther away from values that respect hard work and discipline and closer towards entitlement and socialist ideals.

When you have extremely wealthy corporations funnelling their funds to people betting on their rise or demise, and not funneling the money into their employees pockets you run into problems. Eventually you are going to get a population (corporations employee a large percentage of the workforce) that can no longer afford the goods and services of the corporation.

If the corporation then loses out due to competition or other factors, everyone loses.

Our system is flawed. We have to remember to take care of the employees because the employees ARE the American population. Corporate Management is just a small percentage.

There should be structures put in place to curb excessive greed WHEN it is at the expense of the American people.

It's not a matter of trying to limit someone's income, it is a matter of trying to ensure the success of our country.

How do we expect our politicians to get along when we as citizens can't get along? We use these obscure titles of "Democrat" and "Republican" to place blame when really the blame is on all of us.

If we the people decided to band together and work at solving issues politicians would lose all the power they hold by dividing us. I don't care if your democrat or republican, how often do the politicians actually work in your best interest?

We have so much potential...
I don't live in the US, but if CD is any good representation of what you think about other Americans, then you are really doomed.
CD reads like a high-school forum, I am always surprised that people that post on here are adults because the name-calling FROM BOTH SIDES is so childish.
Guys, you need to get along.

Health Care. Let the republicans into the room to begin with.
Illegal immigration. We can't feed the world right now, so close the borders don't cut border patrol as proposed by Obama.
Intellegence. Let the CIA do its job.
Taxes. Stop punishing business owners and cut taxes to create jobs.

These ideas are simply ideas and not grounds for more name calling and attacks. If we are really going to make an attempt to work together, then maybe we could start here on City-Data. Taking a vow to behave from now on.

Yep. Isn't it something when you articulate a point, and then someone barges in to unintentionally prove your point by their actions. LOL

That would be great. However, liberals have literally lost thier sanity and want to engage in self destructive behavior that will jeopardize all of us. We are just not that dumb to consent to practices that will insure our own destruction.

1. No use of dometic natural resources, thus insuring a reliance on foriegn fuels.

2. Destroying our remaining industry with job killing policies and regulations (cap and trade)

3. Allowing our enemies to have access to civilian courts, eliminating our ability to defend ourselves

4. Advocating social policies that erode the moral fabric of the nation

5. Weakening the educational system by emphasis on bizarre social issues, rather than math, science, and english

6. Eroding the ablitiy and strength of the military to prevent foriegn intervention in our nation

7. Yielding the the UN and undermining our own Constitution.

Liberals are against America. Being American, it is hard to find common ground with the enemy.

1. No use of domestic natural resources, thus insuring a reliance on foriegn fuels.

Are you referring to oil? Eventually oil will run out. It doesn't matter if we're drilling here or people are drilling elsewhere. We have to look for energy alternatives so that we can ensure that future generations won't have energy shortages and to reduce the damage that we're doing to the environment. That's my opinion.

2. Destroying our remaining industry with job killing policies and regulations (cap and trade)

Do you care to elaborate? What job killing policis do you mean?

3. Allowing our enemies to have access to civilian courts, eliminating our ability to defend ourselves.

Are you talking about terrorist? How many terrorist are tried in civilian courts? How is it eliminating our ability to defend ourselves? I don't see the correlation.

4. Advocating social policies that erode the moral fabric of the nation.

What social policies are you referring to? We are the land of the free. Our constitution is based on freedoms and rights. If our freedoms aren't infringing on our rights why should they be limited? Are you talking about such things as gay rights? Or the legalization of marijuana?

The BIG catch is...everybody has a different set of morals. Why should your morals dictate the rights of others? Are your "morals" simply dictated by your religion? Can you elaborate?

5. Weakening the educational system by emphasis on bizarre social issues, rather than math, science, and english.

Possibly if our schools focused more on social issues we wouldn't need these type of threads. On one front you have an issue with American morals. You now follow up saying schools shouldn't focus on social issues. I don't understand your reasoning but I do agree that schools need to focus on math, science, and english. I would also throw in world history and civics.

Also our schools are not even close to being equal. Kids in inner city and in impoverished rural areas do not recieve the same quality of education as the rest of Americans. This is a huge problem because it sets a portion of the population at a disadvantage.

6. Eroding the ablitiy and strength of the military to prevent foriegn intervention in our nation.

What countries are currently a threat to our safety?

7. Yielding to the UN and undermining our own Constitution.

When have we yielded to the UN? We went into Iraq without the UN's consent. Can you state any circumstances where we yielded to the UN?

Liberals are against America. Being American, it is hard to find common ground with the enemy.

It's obvious who the enemy is here. When you single out an entire sector of the AMERICAN population it's obvious.
Not going to let you ruin the thread. So everyone please IGNORE the bold words.
