1010WINS.comÂ* - Insurers in NJ Team Up to Try to Reduce Paperwork (http://www.1010wins.com/Insurers-in-NJ-Team-Up-to-Try-to-Reduce-Paperwork/6348240 - broken link)

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- Five big New Jersey insurers are trying a new way to use the Web to reduce medical paperwork.
The plan, unveiled Thursday, is designed to allow doctors and hospitals to use one Web site to check patients' medical coverage and claims.
The idea is that medical staffs could quickly determine eligibility for treatment and copays.
The companies say it will cover 95 percent of New Jersey residents with private insurance.
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Aetna, AmeriHealth New Jersey, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare are participating.

That is a good point. This could be considered collusion.

Maybe the data base should be on the NJ Health Department site instead of a privately owned site. That way the public could check on the information and request data be changed if necessary. The HD would not have any reason to falsify data in order to deny coverage.
