Lets not even ignore the fact that many of these "pseudo racists" protesters were Democrats, who went in to have their photos taken just so they can project the image to the public that those at the protests are racists..

Not only are they racists, but they are liers, hypocrites and outright dishonest... Only made sadder by their uncontrollable need to lie and twist facts, and when they cant get them on their own, they are willing to cheat and plant whatever they need to in order to get their predetermined outcome..

Of course it's racist. He's equating a black man with eating watermelon. Everybody knows that a racial stereotyupe no-no. Just as if he had said Obama couldn't sell fried chicken.

Get with the program.
Black people like fried chicken and watermelon.... wow big stereotype. They like food that most people like... how racist.

who cares... get a life. Stop buying into left and right on everything. Both sides are dysfunctional and pretty much retarded. Grow a brain and learn to use it. This is grasping at straws if I ever saw it

Haha, do you really think that MLK was a conservative? Go look up the Poor People's Campaign. If you think the fact that Lincoln or MLK were republicans mean anything, you need to think a bit harder. The Republican party of today and the party back then were much, much different.Talk about dishonest.

The welfare comments are just

Just to be clear, when I talk about the change in the Republican Party, I'm specifically thinking of the Southern strategy, which found the Republican Party, beginning in 1968, the same year of MLK's assassination, vigorously fighting legislation supporting desegregation and civil rights in order to win those states.

I don't suggest that all Republicans are racist, in fact, I'm certain that's not the case. But still, some of the arguments being made here are absolutely ridiculous.

There's definitely a sense of superiority there in many liberals. And a sense of superiority goes hand in hand with discrimination and intolerance and prejudice.
Maybe Rather is guilty only of projecting his own prejudice onto conservatives, or maybe he's unable to clearly express whatever garbage he's trying to articulate.

Icy, This is exactly the case. It does not take a doctor of Psychiatry to figure out it is clearly projection.

The liberals state of mind is rather pathetic. Very transparent as well.

Slaves invented fried chicken and a former slave invented peanut butter but racism is not associated with either. Probably 'cause of Col Sanders and whoever else. Watermelon is. Forgot the story as to why.

It is the liberal social "welfare" entitlements that keep generations of minorities on welfare rather than enabling them to take personal responsibility and succeed for themselves that makes liberals racists. They want to keep minorities dependent on the government in order to get their votes. This has been going on since the first carpetbaggers from the North appeard in the South following the end of the War of Northern Aggression.
Please read up on history before making erroneous statements that have no basis in reality.

The reason why minorities are less well off are several fold.

1) Several hundred years of either slavery or denial of entrance into into owning assets (depending on the group and time) have held back minority groups. The end of housing restrictions happened during the time when my dad was alive. I'm 24. Accumulation of wealth was denied to minorities.

2) Unequal allocation of resources. Schools in poorer districts are often underfunded. In more affluent areas, public schools do also have private sources of funding as well. Parents are able to donate more in richer districts. Teachers in more affluent districts are older and have more experience. In many inner city schools, a large percentage of teachers are long term subs.

3) Costs rising faster than wages in poorer communities. While the top .5% of Americans saw HUGE pay increases (a massive rise in percentage of their stake of wealth) we have seen that the poorest Americans have declined...while costs overall have risen.

4) A culture of blaming the poor only. Yes, there may be other personal factors at play. However, these structural factors are probably more important since it could lead to self destructive behaviors. Recent studies have shown that teachers are more likely to be automatically assume boys in a class are trouble makers. Thus, they are more likely to snap at boys. The result is that boys in classrooms assume the role as trouble maker since the teacher classified them as such. Therefore you have a self-fulfilling prophesy. The same is true with those in poverty. A perception of them can lead to them internalizing this identity and basing behaviors on said newly claimed identity which was based on outsiders perceptions of them.

Look welfare should be more focused on training as well as assistance. But to claim that it takes away personal responsibility is absurd.
