People don't know what "liberal" really means.
I am:
- anti existing gun laws ( 2nd amendment)
- against freedom of speech. Hate speech must be outlawed.
- anti religion
- pro choice
- pro gay - marriage
- pro single payer system
- pro social security
- pro unions
etc. etc.

However, I am totally against illegal immigration. I would personally escort them to the border. I am a patriotic left winger. I also don't beliebe in the " we are all immigrants" crap. Last time I checked the vast majority of people was born here.
What I am saying is that NOT everybody is the same, not even close.

Just because we believe in communal responsibility and helping our fellow Americans when they need a hand doesn't mean that we are "pro-welfare."
Then do it..... but this does not mean you have to FORCE others to do it. Allow people to help who they want, how they want on their own terms. That is freedom.

Nobody is preventing anybody from that freedom.

First, you are stereotyping and putting all liberals in one group.

In immigration, this is what I believe:
I want immigrants in the US, but I want the government to give them 1-2 year permits to work in the US only for cities, counties or states.
By doing that, we all benefit with cheap labor and our taxes go down, immigrants make money and go home happy whenever they want to.

I'm not anti-immigrant,
I'm anti-illegal-employers.

Ok, even though I am a libertarian with a conservative lean, I'm just going to say that the OP was inflammatory. You don't just make broad generalizations like that. For the life of me, I can't figure out why, as a liberal, you would be pro-illegal immigration unless you are an illegal or you have family/ friends in Mexico.

Setting that aside, I'd just like to mention that, as a country, now is the time to be working together and reaching across the aisle. After all, you know the saying about "a house divided..."

The truth of the matter is, the VAST majority of Americans are fairly moderate. Moreover, there has been a surge in independents over the past couple decades. Why? BECAUSE BOTH PARTIES ARE IN THE WRONG. The Republicans left their conservative base long ago, splintering off into rotten neo-conservatives who believe in preemptive war and have no sense of fiscal responsibility and far-right religious nut jobs who are hell-bent on denying rights to gays. On the other hand, the Democrats have strayed from their base as well--pushing unnecessary entitlement programs and a tremendously bloated government.

Who's for a third party?!

Most people that want to, do. But we can't do it without more help, more kindness, more neighborliness. That is something everyone should ought to want to do; should not be forced into.

I think mandatory sharing and free selfishness are equally evil.

I'm for even more than 3 parties.

The two party system is worthless, only creates the illusion of choice, and results in the kind of generalizations that we see in the OP.

Both parties are corrupt, but they have become so adept at whipping their constituents into a frenzy over hating LIBERALS or hating CONSERVATIVES that we often neglect the fact that both sides are bilking us (and by us, I mean everyone who is not super-wealthy) constantly, and have been for some time now.

Prominent Conservatives generally tend to be much more reliant on history than moderates or Liberals when making their political points. So I have always been a bit puzzled as to why they rarely discuss how many of our founders were vocally against a two-party system of governance.
