A straightforward question to supporters of the President's healthcare proposals: where is the compassion in cutting Medicare payments to doctors, thus in effect depriving many older people of affordable medical care?

Keep in mind that these same seniors are the ones who have paid into Medicare since its inception in 1966...

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. This policy seems to be directed at harming the most vulnerabe segment of our population.

And then give the illegals a green card, food stamps and free health care. Sounds like a winning plan to me. RP

What is the alternative? If Medicare isn't rained in there is going to need to be frequent and large increases in the FICA tax on all American wage earners. Medicare faces large increases in costs and the number of Americans who will be claiming its benefits. The alternatives are increases in the national debt by TRILLIONS of dollars or making it a first come first served system that may pay benefits only when it has money. A system that may pay out during the first 9 months of the calendar year but not payout during the final quarter.

As one of those people who has been paying since the inception of Medicare and been collecting for over 12 years I can understand what you say. However, I wonder if you know what FICA is collected for and if you know why we old folks "get" to pay more monthly to Medicare than we did when we were working. Yep, they take more out of my SS check monthly than my wife and sons pay each month to Medicare. I don't mind this or call it unfair but maybe when my wife is no longer working I will think it a bit unfair.

I always wonder how the Dems in Congress think they can "get" the $50 billion ten times in ten years without having the amount that is "stolen" from Medicare more than collected. I also wonder why the Dems can't see what CBO is saying when they say you can't spend that money twice. I guess they see only what works for them.

Of course medicare will go belly up and cuts are needed. This, of course, begs the question as to why Obama sees the need to add 1 trillion more in debt for healthcare for illegal aliens. Let's see.............. seniors vote, illegals don't vote. One can guess what will happen in the next election cycle.

As physicians, we already lose money on every medicare patient. We can just stop seeing them, as no one can compel a practice to become insolvent.

I have been having one or two endoscopys each year since 2001 and have griped my head off at how the Medicare bureaucracy has paid the physician and the hospital. Now they are checking me for cancer advance and I am very glad to have the service but why can't they be paid as much as they charge insurance companies for those who have insurance? I will always believe that it is this lack of payment that has caused the rise in health care costs, more than any other single thing.

Our government was never intended to take care of the people. Our government is for foreign, security issues, and equality for the citizens. The people were left to provide for themselves, free to make choices within the laws of mankind.

The USA was not formed to be a nanny to the citizens.
If it is to be, it is up to me, was the law of the land.

Remember these words when your PSA score comes in high, and Medicare won't pay for a good urologist.

This about people's lives, BB. Not philosophy.

But adding millions of people who have never paid anyhting to the proposed helthcare paln is goign to solve anyhting really. if we can't make SWS with people apying i all their working lifes ;how is the paln with no such funds going to work? They cut medicare to actually support the funding.makes no sense at all really. Tyhen they immediately have push a suspension to dstop the cut for 6 months. Cart before the horse. Fix what is broken and don't add to the problem by new program such as the proposed healthcare bills. The cuts and savings have been and are just a shell game played over and over i funding programs.
