You can think that if you like and maybe by your definition telling race based jokes makes people a racist. I am sure if a black told a white joke you would jump up to tell him he is a racist. I, on the other hand don't think it would make him one.
I have a Spanish wife. I have dated black girls and a good friend of mine is black, who by the way makes fun of white people all the time, jokingly of course, but I'll be sure to let him know that you say hes a racist for using the word "cracker" in his jokes.
Words are only hateful if used in a derogatory or hateful way!
At least that is my opinion.
So, I have been wondering this for a little while. The whole n__ word argument was blown out of proportion some years back. Black leaders (whoever and whereever they are) and Bill Cosby, supposedly were trying to ban the word, telling people not to use it. Anywho, I would always hear whites saying, "well, I can't use that word, I can't say that, only you can". They would complain that they don't know when to use it, who to use it to, where, all that. Whites, that I know personally, and my boss, specifically said, "the word shouldn't be allowed to be used, it is a hurtful word and it has a horrible history".
Now, I understand and agree that the word has a horrible history, but whocares?? Why do white people want to be able to say this word?? That is what I don't understand. What is the big deal?? And why because white people "can't" say it (they can say what they want really), should the word be banned from existence?? Also, of all the issues in the black community to give a damn about, why this one??

Hmmmm, funny thing that, I have never had the urge to use the word, must be how I was raised. Nope, my liberal Boston raise father used it on a regular basis. Maybe some of us simply know it is a word only meant to demean or insult/hurt others, and reflects more on the person using the word than those they are using it against. Ignorance abounds on this board at tiimes
I personally have no interest in saying it. But I actually think someday whites and blacks alike will be able to use this word and only "offend" a small minority... of minorities. I don't think it's ever gonna go anywhere, and I damn sure don't want it banned. Don't want any word banned. But if I had to choose one, it'd be the word "stupid".

Being in my early 20's and growing up in a mostly middle class suburban neighborhood in one of America's largest cities, I've heard white guys and girls my age say it freely... with little issue from blacks. Hispanics and Asians in my age bracket do the same as well.

Maybe you can answer something for me that baffles me even more.
Why do a lot of black people constantly say the word to eachother for every purpose from just referring to the person to registering excitement, but then get angry when a 'non-black' person says it?
I've even seen some groups of black people who are friends with mixed people or other ethnicities and try and base on their attitude and skin color/background if they can use the word or not.
