Actually I was, literally. I spent about 16 months in the mid '70s advising the Iranian military. I knew several IAF officers pretty well. I'm no defender of the Ayatollah but the SAVAK made Hitler's GeStaPo look like kids on a picnic.
And;
Quote:
"The Ayatollah came to power as part of US President Jimmy Carter's "Human Rights" policy.
And of course the US's role in overthrowing the ELECTED Mosadegh in favor of the CIA's hand picked guy, The Shah had nothing to do with it.
Too many people on here, like too many people in Republican State and Defense departments think that every complex problem has a simple, black and white answer. In fact NONE of them do.
So it's you with American hostages in Iran and an Iraq that's using chemical weapons. It would appear most of you would just ignore that unwinnable situation. Reagan got the hostages home and helped defeat the Russians in Afghanistan and in their own home.
Reagan's policy was to sell them arms illegally and beg them to hold American hostages until after the Presidential election since it was a good issue to beat Carter with. Sure, it was both treasonous and illegal but that describes most of Reagan's policies.
I'd like to see a little proof of the "begging" you speak of. Since when do Presidential candidates have more power than the actual sitting President?

they can't even comprehend actual bi-partisan investigations and their findings. They'll still happily regurgitate their nonsense in hopes that someone will actually believe it. They still can get over having been beat with 49 states agreeing President Reagan was a far better choice than any other. It leaves them dumbfounded how even after Iran-Contra he could still leave office with an approval rating of 63%. Smarter people saw the effects of Reagan's policies right before them. Dumber people wish to single out events of that time and act like the Cold war never was.
But because a President, and certainly a past President, is subject to prosecution in appropriate cases, the conduct of President Reagan in the Iran/contra matter was reviewed by Independent Counsel against the applicable statutes. It was concluded that President Reagan's conduct fell well short of criminality which could be successfully prosecuted. Fundamentally, it could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that President Reagan knew of the underlying facts of Iran/contra that were criminal or that he made criminal misrepresentations regarding them.
Of course I know how youtube sends tingles up your leg....
