Beginning this year, 2010, Harvey Milk, Gay Activist will be remembered in Public Schools throughout California thanks to the Governor. Public Schools have been given the go ahead to honor this deceased homosexual man with anything from Assemblies teaching about Homosexuality to holding cross dressing contests to staging mock gay parades and weddings to children as young as five years old. Oh, and NO parental notification/consent is required. Festivities will be scheduled for the week of May 17 - 28. You may want to contact your child's school to try and find out how they have chosen to "celebrate." On the other hand, you may want to pick up the phone and start scheduling some interviews with area private schools or begin researching homeschooling laws.( And, I suppose there a few that may want to go shopping for that pink tutu for their son...)
What is with this country and the need for everyday to be a special day? Stupid ass Boss Day on 10/16,Secretary's Day on 4/21, Flag Day on 6/14 etc. Do we REALLY need some stupid special day once a week!? I blame Groundhog's Day leading to march for useless days. Why can't 05/14/10 be 05/14/10 without some special small italics print under it.

Another crazy act by the great governor Arnie. Way to go, steroid boy. Just keep doing things to make my native state more of a laughing stock than it already was.
Normal people just shake their heads in disbelief at this sort of nonsense.
I have no objections to honoring Harvey Milk, a great Californian, decorated Korean War veteran, dedicated public servant, and brilliant political organizer.
If you believe the OP's words about schools having cross-dressing contests, well, you're a fool, and you've probably got bigger problems than having to worry about Harvey Milk Day.
Plenty of time in the schools for absurd nonsense like this, but somehow no time to learn academic basics. About one-half of those entering CA colleges require remedial studies to repeat subjects taught in high school. Why do schools have to be involved in ridiculous topics like gay rights? Because that is the best opportunity the government has to brainwash the little people. Their parents surely won't feed them this crap.
