I don't recall any part of the Bible telling us to give other people's money to the poor. You have your wires crossed.
Millions of conservatives give billions of dollars to the poor..... out of their OWN pocket. Why is it that you want to give other people's money to the poor?
And by the way, taxes are not "giving to the poor". They are taking from productive Americans.
"Good luck to the evangelists trying to spread the Gospel to nations that they cannot enter"
Last time I checked most evangelists go to other countries quite often....LEGALLY! Just like the millions of people (57 million in 2007) visiting the USA LEGALLY every year.
Don't quote the "gospel" of Thomas. It isn't a canonical book. Get over it.
The OP has a terrific point. It's funny what people will to to rationalize the very clear words of Jesus. He states over and over again in the Gospels that we are to give away EVERYTHING we have and follow him. Now, I know for American society this is a really really difficult concept to swallow. So, we have to mitigate the language to mere poetry. But, you can't pick and choose what is literal and what is figurative in the bible. What gives you the authority?
You surely pick out the fornication verses and use them literally. But when it comes to your pocket, when Jesus starts telling you to come up out of your wallet with some cold, hard cash....you suddenly think he wasn't serious! Ha!!!
Wake up. Either you believe the bible or you don't. The bible doesn't talk about abortion, but you use it to interpreted as murder, but when it explictly says that you should give what you have to the less fortunate AND pay your taxes to your government, you feel it needs to be interpreted as something else. It's just hypocritical. Get over it.
Jesus did in fact instruct ONE man to sell all he had and give to the poor and follow Him.
The Rich young ruler went away sorrowful.
Some like you seem to want to interpret this passage as instructions for all. What you fail to grasp from the scripture is that Jesus looked into this mans heart and found the one thing that man in particular needed to hear.
It was this young man’s opportunity to not only find salvation in Christ, but further to be freed from the one thing that bound him (his own wealth).
Jesus’ instruction to this man was not a corporate call for all to give all they have and walk an austere path.
I am sorry that you missed this wonderful message, but hopefully you can see it now. This passage gives us a great hope that God will deal with us as individuals perfecting each of us in exactly the way we need to be perfected. Provided we let him. The sad reality is that the passage also provides us with a cautionary tale. Far too many people, when confronted with their own reality, refuse to change themselves and live a life of sorrow.
Peace to you and yours and I pray you will find your path…
"When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native born." - Leviticus 19:33,34 (NIV).
21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Once again a liberal displaying their ignorance.........Dopo do you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Do you recognize the Bible as the inerrant word of God?

btw........you left a few things out in your silly poll, what about murder, how does that fit into your warped view?

Where does it say "let thy government taketh from you and distribute to those who they want to have it"? Would Jesus be OK with giving to abortion clinics?
Now, go say two Hail Mary's and an Our Father.
