I'm confused about garbage and recycling pickup in Vero Beach. Why are there so many companies that do this!?! Here in NC it's connected to utilities, so water, waste, recycling and garbage are one and on the same bill. How does it work in Vero and is there a better way to go? We are BIG recyclers and always have more of that then regular trash.

Help!!!! I'm still looking and researching about garbage pickup in Vero Beach. Why would the city make such a necessity so confusing!?!? Garbage removal should be managed by the city with a strong emphasis on recycling. Why isn't this considered a utility where it's arranged when your water is turned on as a city utility? I've lived all over the world with the Air Force, and never had to hire a separate garbage company. Am I making this more difficult than it really is?

Yes, I think so. It's only trash. You obviously have never lived in a rural area where there is no option but to handle the trash yourself. Which, btw, you can do here. If it's only you and the wife, you'll only generate about one or two bags a week. While you're out rambling about, you can drop it off at the IRC trash and recycling station. The county will pick up your recycling at the curb.

Thanks Harry Who? We usually have 1 bag of genuine garbage and lots of paper, glass, plastic and metal recyclables weekly. Does the county come automatically weekly if I just leave it at the curb? Do I have to arrange service with them?

Find out what your day is and just put it out. You don't have to arrange it. At least that's easy. You'll be used to the system in short order.
