Well, the "richest metro" listing might explain why Vero has such a fancy monthly magazine for its size. Just looking at the ads in it will tell you there's money in the area. And that is a great plus for the arts, the library system, etc.

ok... sigh.. how about telling ALL the story about psl...the rest reads:

Port St. Lucie is a retirement mecca, featuring the 54-hole PGA Village. It also hits Florida's top five for unemployment and foreclosures.
Source: Census

We have the most foreclosures because we BUILT HOUSES when others didn't... and no other reason. And, since OTHER PLACES built houses too they also have foreclosures -- lets try CALIFORNIA and pay THOSE prices.

It also says its a retirement MECCA-- as in a good word.... because we have golf courses--aka PGA VILLAGE-- actually a nice place to live with 3 great golf courses that are open to everyone plus one that is private. NOT to mention the numerous other golf courses all over the area AND ALL OVER FLORIDA.

As for unemployment -- EVERYBODY has unemployment all over the NATION...not just here. Even VERO has unemployment. Maybe they have more "rich" people than PSL does. So does Palm Beach.

I agree with everything you said, FlaLadyB, and didn't mean to only highlight negative aspects of the region (Sebastian, VB, PSL).

Rather, I thought both lists together illustrate that while there's a lot of wealth and plush amenities in this area, there are also challenges. This area doesn't stand alone in facing those challenges, of course, but they exist and are part of the story.

The abundant wealth creates a plethora of really nice housing plus great shopping, dining, cultural, educational, recreational and entertainment options set against a naturally beautiful backdrop. All of that attracted me and my husband to this area. We love it!

I agree too however i feel that PSL is on a definate rebound. Sure we have had a few failures but I see more homes being built in the area. I don't see that many for sale or foreclosed signs in my area. A new hospital going in, retail starting to open along with a few restaurants.

From what I can see it is also becoming quite a family living area and not just a retirement place. That can only help the schools because if educated people move in they will demand better schools. PSL has a lot of potiential that has yet to be developed.
