FORT PIERCE — The 39th Annual Original Greek Festival returns to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Feb. 9-11.
The festival will open at daily at 11 a.m .and features live music, dancing, authentic Greek foods, imported Greek wines, beers and other beverages.
Attendees will be able to sample an extensive menu that includes lamb shanks, soutzoukakia, moussaka, gyros and souvlaki. Baklava, koulourakia, kataifi and diples will be among the pastries.
The event will also include a variety of booths and vendors selling goods imported from Greece and other countries. Tours of the 200-member church will also be available. Parking is free.
“The Original Greek Festival is a family event,” added Nick Florentinos, another of the event organizers. “It’s a great weekend and lot of fun. We invite the community to join us for this annual celebration of our culture, language and religious heritage.'
The festival is St. Nicholas Church’s major annual fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit community organizations that the church supports, among them Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hospice of The Treasure Coast. The second annual Treasure Coast History Festival is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in front of the Sunrise Theatre, 117 S. Second St. in downtown Fort Pierce.
This celebration of historical events in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties features historical re-enactors, ghost tours, historic trolley tours, rustic crafts, local history authors and a genuine Summerlin family fish fry. Presentations in the theater’s Black Box include the Adams Ranch history, the Summerlin fishing history and the establishment of Fort Pierce as a military base. Plus, students from Indian River Charter High School will present excerpts from "American Jazz," a musical based on the discovery of recent letters between Waldo Sexton and author Zora Neale Hurston.

The second annual Lions Fort Pierce Half Marathon & 5K is Sunday in downtown Fort Pierce. The half marathon begins at 6:30 a.m., and the 5K starts at 7 a.m.
The course was designed to take in the historical and photographic highlights of Fort Pierce, starting downtown and passing waterside parks and sites before traveling over the South Causeway Bridge to the jetty, along the shoreline and back.
Race prices are $80 for the half marathon and $45 for the 5K. Proceeds benefit local charities, including the Lions Club, the HANDS of St. Lucie County and the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee to renovate the historic Lincoln Theatre in Fort Pierce. Abby Owens at Ground Floor Farm: Nothing says “girl power” like listening to the bluesy sounds of talented local musician Abby Owens. Many people don’t realize this indoor urban farm has a café inside that serves wine, beer and cocktails in addition to delicious food made with local ingredients, some grown onsite. Owens performs from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Bring some girlfriends and share some hummus with pickle brine seed crackers or a freshly baked bread and cheese plate and a bottle of wine. Girls’ Night Out at the Elliott Museum: This series of fun and creative workshops is back by popular demand. Up next in the series is A Pair of Painted Wine Glasses Workshop with artist Meg Roberts on Jan. 25. The $50 fee for museum members and $65 fee for nonmembers includes the two wine glasses, all painting materials, munchies and one glass of wine. 2018 Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival
It’s time to get froggy again in Fellsmere, with the festival hopping into the city hall complex on South Orange Street on Thursday through Sunday. “The festival is really unique because it takes place right in the middle of town and it has a quintessential downtown feel to it," she said. "And besides, where else can you eat frog legs?”
Many people attend the festival just to have a chance to taste frog legs and gator tail for the first time. Fellsmere has been proclaimed “Frog Leg Capital of the World,” and the Frog Leg Festival holds two Guinness Book World Records for the “Most Frog Legs Served in the Course of One Business Day” and the “Largest Frog Leg Festival in the World.”
In addition to the unusual food choices, the festival also features a midway with amusement rides and games and a craft fair with more than 100 booths. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a special demonstration of the cane syrup extraction process so people can learn how sugar was made in the past.

The 24th annual Treasure Coast Party in the Park eco-festival is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park at 905 Shorewinds Drive. The Conservation Alliance of St. Lucie County started the eco-festival in 1994 to celebrate Earth Day and the 1972 success of preserving the state park land that had been slated for condos. The event includes more than 30 interactive exhibits from local organizations such as Ocean Research and Conservation Association, Florida Oceanographic Society, FAU Harbor Branch Ocean Discovery, Anglers for Conservation and the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center. The 75th anniversary and remembrance service for the Four Chaplains Monument at Riverview Park is 1 p.m. Saturday at 600 U.S. 1 in Sebastian. On Feb. 3, 1943, the USAT Dorchester was hit by enemy fire and sank in the Atlantic Ocean. Of the 902 men on board, only 230 survived. Four of the men who died were chaplains who stood together helping others into lifeboats and handing out life jackets. When the ship ran out of life jackets, the four chaplains removed their own life jackets and handed them to the next four men in line, regardless of religion. The 34th annual Treasure Coast Woodcarvers Show is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Vince Bocchino Community Center at Langford Park at 2369 N.E. Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach. The show has hundreds of carvings on display from members of the local club, as well as carvers from across the U.S. and Canada, plus carving tools and supplies for sale. It also includes carving exhibitions and a sweet potato carving lesson for kids with tools, safety equipment and potatoes provided. Mariners – stage by Marker 19 by the 10 cent bridge at 11:30 a.m. Follow Don Pedro Gilbert’s Pirate Ship (can’t miss it!) to invade Stuart as the armada arrives downtown between 12-12:30 p.m.
$1000 reward for the best pirate boat/crew. $250 award for the best pirate/wench by land or sea. $200 bounty divyied up to the top three little pirates (12 and under!). Pirate judging will be held on the Riverwalk Stage around 2:15 p.m.

CHASING CATERPILLARS TRIATHLON 18 FEB
The Chasing Caterpillars Triathlon will be held at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark in 2018 for their race. Fans will love the comfortable bleachers while spectating the triathlons in the race. HORSES AND HORSEPOWER 18 FEB[/color]
The Florida Region Rolls-Royce Owners Club joins the Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation in a fundraiser featuring the world’s finest cars and most fortunate horses! On Sunday, February 18 from noon to 4 pm, enjoy an afternoon in the country viewing a unique display of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars. This is a sanctioned Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club event with judges who will award prizes. Braman Motorcars of West Palm Beach will display several of the latest models and are a sponsor of this event.
Admission is free for spectators. Car owners may receive a registration form for the car show, by emailing eraf.events@gmail.com.
There will be food and beverages available for purchase, along with music and raffles.
Artist Maureen Fulgenzi will display her artwork for sale and a portion of the proceeds will benefit ERAF. Maureen is a well-known artist from Palm Beach who works in oil, acrylic, ceramic, watercolor and muralist. You can preview her artwork at maureenfulgenzi.com.
Horses: Visit with the rescued horses and tour the barn. Volunteers will answer your questions and provide information about the horse’s background and how you can help sponsor a horse.
If you are interested in finding a horse for riding or as a companion horse, there are always great horses available and ready to find their forever home and give you the joy of horse ownership. You can also learn about volunteer opportunities; orientation is held twice month.
The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of abused, neglected, abandoned and slaughter-bound horses, donkeys and mules. As a non-profit we rely on donations to assist in the care of these animals. All donations are tax-deductible.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County will be hosting the Port St Lucie Seafood Festival at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center on Saturday, March 10. The event will feature a wide selection of seafood, live music, vendors and a kid’s zone.

The event will run from 11 am to 7 pm with free admission and free parking. Plans for the kid’s zone include: Prizes, bounce house, face painting, games to include giant math Jenga, Connect Four, Yahtzee. Other activities featuring Boys & Girls Clubs programs include Healthy Habits game, paint by numbers, music makers – kazoos, rent keyboards, buckets, tambourines and more.
In addition, BGC will offer the Atlantis VIP Club which will feature a designated area with covered seating, cocktails and a menu provided by the festival food vendors. VIP tickets will be available to purchase at the event. Current plans also include a corn hole tournament, classic car show and a variety of costumed characters to include pirates and mermaids.

Live music begins at 11:30 with a variety of music genres ranging from pop, reggae, classic rock, country and a special performance by the Wild Roses dance team. Southern Eagle Distributing is the title sponsor this event and they will supply beer trucks with plenty of cold beer. A full bar from Bonner Bar will also be onsite and include their signature Malibu buckets.
Food vendors, arts/crafts, retail, business, non-profit and novelty booths are welcome. Any organization interested in securing booth space at the event, please contact the Boys & Girls Club.
