GO CART RACING
To introduce families and prospective racers to the sport, South Florida Karting will host an open house 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday at the Hobe Sound Speedway at 5400 S.E .Bridge Road (3.5 miles east of U.S. 1, and 3.5 miles west of Interstate 95). Racing karts will be available for testing on the banked asphalt oval track, and drivers and crews will discuss the program, equipment, costs, and answer questions. There is a $5 per person charge for the event to cover insurance costs. The group accepts racers ages 5-70 and they are placed in classes according to age and experience. As drivers' skills improve, they can move up in classes, which are regulated by kart weight and horsepower. Starting this Sunday, and every Sunday following, we will walk through the downtown area and make sure people are aware of the algae crisis. Bring signs and be civil. Education is key. Many people have no idea what is going on. Talk to the people. Encourage safety. Encourage voting. If you do not live in the area, start an awareness walk in your area at a place where there will be a good sized group of people.

FREE Spay and Neuter Program

Operation SOS
Port St. Lucie Animal Control is partnering with Operation SOS to provide FREE spay and neuter services for pet owners who reside in the City of Port St. Lucie. (proof of residency is required at time of check-in DL, utility bill, car registration etc.)

Limited space is available so pre-registration is required.

When scheduling your appointment with Operation SOS, you will need to choose: "City of PSL Program" under Income Qualifier Document and again under the Add Package option.

Humane Society of St. Lucie County --We also have a voucher program done thru The Humane Society of St. Lucie County.

If you would like to use our voucher program, you will need to come to Animal Control with proof of residency (DL, utility bill, car registration etc.) current rabies vaccination paperwork and a fee of $15.00 for a City license. Humane Society vouchers are sent electronically via e-mail once a week on Fridays.

If your pet does not have a current rabies vaccine, your pet will receive one at the time of surgery (the rabies vaccination is included with the Spay/Neuter at no additional cost to the pet owner)

If your pet does not have a current City license and your either provided proof of current rabies vaccine or your pet received one the day of surgery you will receive a City license when picking up your pet. A fee of $5 will be required and payable to City of Port St. Lucie.

Between 2 lbs and 80 lbs of weight
Between 4 months and 10 years of age
Males must have both testicles desended
Dogs must be presented on a leash
Cats must be in a carrier

Items to Consider before making an appointment
You must be at the van with your pet between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
You must be available to pick up your pet at 4 p.m.
You must be able to confine your pet for 10 days post-surgery and monitor the incision site

LABOR DAY WEEKEND -- AUG 31 THRU SEPT 2

The Jeepers & Creepers Car Show Block Party is 3-9 p .m. Saturday at Pierced Ciderworks at 4 11 N. Second St., in Fort Pierce. The Treasure Coast’s first and only cidery is closing the street for a rat rod and Jeep show and the release for 12 new ciders that day only. The rat rods are from Colonial Metalworks in Fort Pierce and the Jeeps are from the Treasure Coast Jeep Club. Plus, there will be a food truck with island- style barbecue. The Martin County Young Farmers and Ranchers Buck Wild Fish Roundup will be held Friday August 31st and Saturday September 1st of Labor Day Weekend. Proceeds from this event will fund future educational events and conferences for our committee. Events like farm tours, the 2018 Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference, and other like events help educate our committee members on the many different agricultural operations in our state and legislative issues facing our farmers and ranchers. We will also be donating 10% of the proceeds from this tournament to the Martin County Farm Bureau Youth Enhancement Fund to further support youth agriculture programs, like 4-H and FFA, in Martin County.
There are several ways for you to get in on the action! Our four main target fish are: King Fish, Wahoo, Dolphin, and Snapper. The boat with the largest total weight made of these four species wins. The Buck Wild Fish Roundup costs $300 per boat with up to 4 anglers. Pay outs are $2,000 for 1st place, $1,500 for 2nd place, and $1,000 for 3rd place for largest fish by weight. Or you can take the Lion Fish Challenge. The boat with the most Lion Fish wins the Lion Fish Challenge. The Lion Fish Challenge costs $100 per boat with up to 4 anglers. Pay outs are 40% of the pot for the 1st place boat and 30% of the pot for the 2nd place boat.

Three different German-themed events top the best things to do this weekend, but there’s still a long list of other ways to have fun in Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties.

The fourth annual Vero Beach Pirate Festival is 2-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Riverside Park at 3258 Riverside Park Drive. The festival brings the community together to remember the historical significance of the loss of the 1715 Spanish fleet, which is why the tri-county area is called the Treasure Coast. Port St. Lucie Animal Control is partnering with Operation SOS to provide FREE spay and neuter services for pet owners who reside in the City of Port St. Lucie. (proof of residency is required at time of check-in DL, utility bill, car registration etc.)

Limited space is available so pre-registration is required.

When scheduling your appointment with Operation SOS, you will need to choose: "City of PSL Program" under Income Qualifier Document and again under the Add Package option.

Free Drive-thru rabies vaccine clinic Sunday 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Put Fido and Fluffy in the car and head over to the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB) on Sunday, September 30. That's when the shelter will be offering county residents a free drive-thru rabies vaccination clinic from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This free event is for dogs and cats belonging to Indian River County residents. Vaccinations will be available and administered on a first come, first serve basis. HSVB's free one-year rabies vaccinations will be offered to dogs and cats sixteen weeks of age or older. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers. Pet parents must show proof of Indian River County residency. Country music star and Vero Beach native Jake Owen Owen’s benefit concert

Jake Owen is bringing new and classic country music together in his hometown for a good cause. He’ll be joined at the 12th annual Jake Owen Foundation Benefit Concert on Dec. 8 at the Indian River Country Fairgrounds by Joe Diffie, Chris Lane and Morgan Wallen. It’s the final stop on Owen’s “Life’s Whatcha Make It” tour and the first time his benefit concert is at the fairgrounds.

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday. General admission tickets are $45. Premier tickets and pit passes are $100. VIP tickets are $150 and include a reserved premier seat, a limited-edition Jake Owen Foundation Tshirt and early entry.

“Coming back home and playing in Vero Beach is always special for me,” said Owen in a news release. “With a lineup like we have this year, fans will have a great time but most importantly their support means we can continue to make a difference in the lives of children in need.”

The Jake Owen Foundation was founded in 2010 and is a nationally active charitable organization with a local approach. The foundation’s mission is to assist youth nationwide through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and in Indian River County through the Boys & Girls Club of Indian River County and other local charities. The foundation has raised more than $1.4 million since its first fundraiser in Vero Beach.
