We have a totally different experience, and no pun intended, a Totally different than " opinion experience".

I lived in NJ for 9 years at one point in my life, and life there, while I had friends, the area is still NJ. Living much of my adult adult in Virginia, we moved up to Maine a year and half ago. We are well received as part of the community, have not met a single rude person yet in any area we have been too in Maine- as well as of course- the area we live, and Feel Blessed that we made this move to Maine. ! A position and opinion many others here on the Maine forum feel as well.

With a tag line "Release the Hounds" pretty much sums up your take on outsiders.

So where did you live in NJ for 9 years Newark?

No one is rude in Maine? Ever been to Marcy's Diner in Portland? She made National news the way she treated a customer with and out of control kid. Slamming your hands down on the table yelling at the kids parents is worse than the kid misbehaving. Telling the parents to leave politely because the misbehaved child is disturbing the customers is the polite, professional way to handle it rather than traumatizing a child and exploding the situation.

As I said, Maine is not all bad, just not the "special place" it is portrayed as. The County may be for you or Portland may be for you that still leaves a lot in between.

I think that she and her husband have many hound dogs which are a big focus of their life......did you see her chat name?

...
To answer your question- " Release the Hounds" is a term used in lure coursing, and fox hunting, or even just to let them out to run in the yard- etc for literally " releasing the hounds". I have Borzoi, 4 of them to be exact, and one greyhound- and they are 35mph couch pototos. Borzoi and greyhounds are also a member of " The Hound Group" in the AKC. ( American Kennel Club )
So how you think that has to do with outsiders is uh... jeez....

I lived in Lawrenceville, Princeton, and out near Cedar Grove. My ex husband was born and raised in Trenton, having lived as well in other parts of NJ.

Yea... I know.... ( as well as the response from said person explains a lot why they feel Maine is rude.. Rude tends to do as 'rude is given"...)

"Release the Hounds" is an old line to chase people. That is a rude comment towards outsiders, especially when you have hounds.

No one has a stance on how the owner of Marcy's Diner reacted?

That is a far stretch from reality.

Serious streatch as it is a term used in dogs, just like " Tally-ho" is used in fox hunting release of the hounds. The term " Release the Hounds" is used in dog shows to bring in the Hound group- said from shows as Large as Crufts to Westminster- to local dog shows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkUX1DrO7xo
And one of our dogs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYaPMVCMNjY

This serious stretch of reality explains the jaded view expressed by opinion experience in these comments.

This sort of logic/way of thinking seems to be popular in rural areas everywhere.
