Just 9 more months until summer. The summers here are awesome. You just have to wait for next summer.

Summer was short this year. It started on July 6th and ended September 4th. It was nice while it lasted. Now the temperature is not supposed to get above 70 for the next 10 days. This is pretty unusual weather for early September. Anyhow, let the countdown to July 4th, 2011 begin. In the meantime, get your pullovers and rain jackets out because you wont be wearing light clothes again for a while.

I am kind of glad the heat is over. I was getting a headache. The late sunsets were driving me crazy. Hello, Fall...

I am thrilled that fall is arriving; my first real fall in over 30 years! When I was at Fred Meyer recently a bright red maple leaf fell off a tree, next to the car, and I picked it up, took it home and pressed it in a book. Growing up in Ohio, I took our beautiful autumns for granted; I never knew how much I'd miss them during my long tenure in coastal South Carolina and then Florida.

And, I don't do heat, so yes, I greatly prefer the cooler temps; rain, grey skies, doesn't matter, as long as I don't have to feel overheated!

This, this, THIS...oh a thousand times this!

It's trivially easy (and so cozy) to layer your clothes in cooler temperatures but when it's oppressively hot (and you're not at a beach, on vacation, enjoying it) there is nothing you can do. Retreating inside to air conditioning all day and driving around in A/C is annoying and gross. I want to live, not hide, and you know what? I can look up at a grey sky without glasses, and as far as rain goes...humans are conveniently waterproof.

Of course, I understand that most folks feel differently, but that's great because they eventually move out of Portland and leave apartments and jobs for the weird folks who agree.

We are going to gave warm and dry weather all week. I just stashed away all the Summer clothes! I guess this is Portland's Indian Summer? I was almost disappointed when I saw the weather forecast. I was enjoying the chillier mornings. Tomorrow is supposed to be 80 degrees as the high. We'll see. I am keeping a sweater close by. Will enjoy the end of Summer but looking forward to Portland Fall!

Portland is the Greatest City that has ever existed. Why would anyone ever want to leave? It's so large and divers as well as being so multi-cultural.
