I just heard on the radio that it was 108

in Portland but I looked at the weather.com and it was saying 85 for a high. What's going on over there? How's the city holding up?

It isn't even close to 108 in Portland. Yesterday was 88, today is supposed to be 82. I think someone misread "Phoenix" for "Portland" off of a list.

That's funny! It was the NYC public radio station...

....by the way when it does get really hot (forecast to be 101 next week) how humid does it typically get? I'm planning on being there in mid July.

Usually (depending on time of day) between 30-60%. It can get higher, but it generally doesn't stay that way for long. It cools off at night, too.

And a weather forecast out a week or so is pretty useless. Our weather is heavily influenced by the Pacific and it makes things change as it comes on shore. Since it's summer, it'll probably be warm and sunny, but you never know.

Yeah, 108 doesn't sound very PNW-ish. I'll be there the first week of August and I certainly hope it's not in the 100s then.

May have been an error. I thought I saw numbers like that for north Oregon and Wash. too on the channel here, but it didn't fit with my internet weather check.

I'm doing great myself. For one, It was cooler here in Applegate Valley than forecast - maybe 89 to 92 today, but I was at the coast - Brookings. 59 to 70 degrees and a mix of sun and clouds.

And oh, was it awesome.

Went into the Redwoods, the beach, and went to see the Darlingtonia Cobra Lilies up along the highway by Smith River.

Last year around this time it was 105 in Portland. It was horrible as we had a dog dying of liver failure/old age and no air conditioning! We had to get blocks of ice, run a fan behind it and put wet towels down on the floor to keep him comfortable. I'm hoping July doesn't get that hot again!

Why not get one of those $100 air conditioners for a window?

We have "full" installed airconditioning in the home we bought, but don't really even use it - or need it. At night, we use a box fan to push warm air out, while drawing cool air in. Then we we turn on the small window unit air conditioner in one room alone during later morning. We put a small fan on the floor to push that rooms cooler air around a lot of the main living area.

Works fine for us - only $20 of electricity too, per month.

The three digit temperatures, I'm sure are very rare in Portland. You will have more cooler temp's than warmer one's. If you live in Texas or Arizona it would make more sense to have an air condioner, but I guess it's all about personal preferences anyway.

We live in a downtown building that doesn't allow them. This year we went and bought one anyway and just installed it on the deck/in our sliding door so no one can see it. I'm not going through 95+ weather with no air again!
