I plan on getting a dog after I move. Are parks in Portland dog friendly? Are they allowed at all/most parks? Are there dog parks? Do you see many people walking their dogs in the downtown area? I'm focusing on living downtown are nearby.

Dogs on a leash are not an issue. People are expected to remove their dog's droppings. There are some parks that have off-leash areas for dogs, one at Wallace Park in NW comes to mind.

Where ever there is high density living humans expect that the dogs in their midst are under control and well behaved. Owners of rental properties vary a great deal on their toleration of pets.

Hi NewHomeOregon,

Your future home is probably the most dog friendliest city in the United States. Just google it and you will see that Portland lands on the top of many reputable sites and magazines devoted to dogs. Read the articles and you will see why.

Good luck with your move!

Thanks so much for your input, folks. I so look forward to walking a dog in all those beautiful parks! And I'm a very responsible dog owner. I always pick up.

No, Portland HATES dogs... that's why we've got a bunch of off-leash areas for them.
