SO who is the moderator on this board? Do we have one. I know some other boards I post on are much more tightly governed (ie. hang around the Colorado board and see what I mean).

You know someone personally, or just don't see someone's posts on here anymore?

According to the Moderator List posted here: //www.city-data.com/forum/faq/1...ator-list.html

OilDog is the Moderator of the Portland and Eugene Forums. The Oregon Forum is team moderated.

So one of the most liberal parts of the country is being moderated by a person from one of the most conservative parts....

i kinda like how it is here. on the phoenix board they are snipping things left and right. no off topic discussion allowed. that's no fun.

I have volunteered in the past, as I have experience Moderating and Administrating forums larger then this one. I didn't get any kind of answer back.

I much prefer the way it is now.

There is no evidence that anybody of any political viewpoint is being treated unfairly. I don't care where the moderator is from as long as he or she is fair.

I can only see it being much worse if one of forum's partisan regulars became moderator.

When I joined, the forum was being moderated by a woman on the coast and then by a woman in the MidWest. I don't know that either woman was actually from the area that she lived in and/or influenced by the local culture. We don't know that OilDog is from or influenced by his local culture. Personally I think the moderation of this forum has improved greatly. I used to get infractions all the time. A rational moderator should IMO look to the intent and the character of a poster and judge a post in its context and also in the context of the recent posting history of a given poster. Slavish devotion of 'on topicness' or some other dogmatic formula makes a forum stilted and IMO less enjoyable. Personally I think a fair amount of troll feeding goes on here. TBH that is not the moderators job. It's ours. A 'good' troll will not always use offensive vocabulary or make blatantly offensive references but it gives me pause sometimes when I see well meant and thoughtful answers to questions that make my hair curl.
