I recently received some old books and while browsing through them discovered some photos of what appear to be bands circa the 1970's. They are professional shots and a couple of them are stamped, "Tom Stinnette Agency., Portland"

One photo is a group shot of 3 guys and is labelled "Southbound" and the others are a group shot of a group of 5 called "Kid" and then 5 individual shots of the band members. I did some Internet research but couldn't find much info. There does still appear to be an "A Stinnette Entertainment" agency in Portland with the same phone number listed on the photos but I couldn't find out anything about either band. Does anybody remember them? I guess I'm just curious to find out if they were successful at all and what might have happened to them.

Also, I really don't need the photos so if anyone is interested in having them (or could recommend someplace that might want them) let me know. It seems a shame to throw them out and if they bring back some nostalgic memories for someone they are welcome to them!

It's possible that those were bands passing through on Tour too. For instance there is a Mid-West Based group called SouthBound that looks like some of the members would be the right age.

I'd go ahead and call the agency for more info, they might be able to help you and might even want the pictures back.

Surely you remember Rindy Ross of Quarterflash. Pure Portland Band. Seafood Mama and Pilot became Quarter Flash and “Harden My Heart” was mesmerizing.

Southbound was out of Auburn Washington ... http://pnwbands.com/southbound.html

You can find them all right here ... http://pnwbands.com/nwtributes60.html

The Home Page with other years is here ... http://pnwbands.com/nwtributes.html

Seafood Mama was also known as Begger's Banquet.

Members of Sand and Norfolk were also in Quarterflash at one time or another.

Thanks for the links Steve but it doesn't appear to be the same band. The photo I have of "Southbound" shows 3 guys who don't resemble the guys pictured on the site you mentioned.

I think I will follow hamellr's advice and call the agency. Like I said in my first post the phone number I saw online is the same one listed on one of the photos so it can't hurt to try it.

I still can't find any info. on a band called "Kid" from that era.

Is this them ...... Kidz - Seattle (1974)

While looking I also located what may be the biggest band (http://pnwbands.com/kingsmen.html), or at least the song (http://www.louielouie.org/), in Portland's music history.

When you find what you are looking for, this would be a good site to donate the info and pictures to.

A few months ago a classmate of mine passed away, Robin Shaylor. Those attending his gathering received a CD of his college group, the Yeomen, performances. He played every stringed instrument and was an active musician until his last days. His wife showed many home pictures, including one where he gave his infant son a tiny violin.

Who doesn't?

Marv & Rindy Ross are now part of the Trail Band. They formed the band for the Sesquicentennial of the Oregon Trail many years back, and apparently did well enough the band is still together.

In the early-80's I was a big fan of the Crazy 8's and Dan Reed Network; however, I don't know if either band was popular in the late-70's. I moved here in '78 but didn't do clubs right away.
